Someone or something named after someone or something, e.g. Mount Everest.
Someone or something after which someone or something is named, e.g. George Everest.
Someone or something that has the same name as someone or something else.
Also, it seems 1. is the true meaning of "namesake" (see e.g. the article Namesake), 2. is more correctly called an Eponym, and 3. seems to me to be wrong, though to some it seems to be OK. Anyway, this article as well as Niamh McEvoy (St. Sylvester's Gaelic footballer) simply describe both as namesakes, in meaning No. 3. Would it be better to put it differently (yes I think so!), and how ("another player sharing her name, viz. ...")?--Nø (talk) 19:46, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
PS. 3. could be divided thus:
3a. Either of 1. and 2.
3b. Two entities that happen to share a name without one being named after the other.
Of these various meanings, 1. appears to be the original meaning; 2. and 3a. are related, and 3b. - the meaning we had here - is the least meaningful use of the word.--Nø (talk) 08:11, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
