Nick Lowe's middle name[edit]

Can't find the source right now, but it's definitely "Drain". There's an interview out there with him somewhere confirming this -- apparently, it was his father's name. "Orain" (or "Nicholas O. Lowe") shows up on some publishing records simply because someone at BMI misread Lowe's initial hadwritten application form, which asked for his full name. "Nicholas Drain LOWE" is given for his record at Companies House, which I think has legal status. Perhaps this could be used as a source in the article? I'm not sure if this is necessarily his birth name. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:10, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A search at FreeBMD for "Lowe" births, between March and December 1949 reveals only one in Surrey, registered in June 1949, mother's name THATCHER: [1] The middle initial is clearly D., although this could, of course, be transcription error by "griff". Would that it were so simple as to have "anti vandalism mode". It is not easy to make automatic determinations what is vandalism and what are legitimate edits.
Anyone can revert vandalism simply by going to the article history and restoring the last good version of the article (with an appropriate summary: "revert vandal" will do). If an article is frequently vandalised, there are some thing we can do in terms of protection, but they also stop legitimate edits. - Jmabel | Talk 18:36, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Best-known song[edit]

How can "Lowe's best-known song from the Brinsley Schwarz era," be a song that was recorded after that "era" because it was rejected by other members of the band? Nicmart 16:58, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't say "best known recording." It says "best known song." Those songs are, in fact, from the Brinsley Schwarz era (since that's when he wrote them), even if the recordings that made them famous are from later.

The Bodyguard[edit]

What is the source of the assertion that Lowe was freed from commercial constraints because he became a millionaire due to sales of The Bodyguard? What was he worth before that? Not sure of the source, and I didn't write that, but I've heard him say that on two occasions. But I realize that is not citable. More recent photo needed[edit]

I'm watching Nick Lowe on "Austin City Limits" this evening and he now looks nothing whatsoever like the photo on the main page. Can somebody please post a more recent picture? Ken Burch 5:14 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Article is utter crap[edit]

Pity poor Nick Lowe for being the subject of this abomination. It does irreparable damage to logic and the English language. My favorite example is how the birth of his son is tacked onto the end of sentence about his relationship with Carlene Carter and the Cash family. Connection? None. I definitly remember the line from reading the article on paper all those years ago. It made an impression on me 'cause Nick put in a simple phrase something I'd been feeling about popular music for some time.

The source is right there with the quote: Sep-Oct 2001 No Depression (#35). Just needs the proper 'footnote'.

Drug and alcohol abuse[edit]

I am surprised in the article to find there is no reference to Lowe's well published periods of drug and/or alcohol dependency. They were significant periods of time and are partly covered here.
