Racism[edit]

"Nitin was raised in Rochester, Kent, England. He used music and comedy to escape the ever present racist attitudes of the other students. He was even at one time banned from the music room by a teacher who was a member of British National Front."

Have we got any citations for this? This is pretty defamatory stuff!--Cunningham 17:56, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well nothing about the music room, but a lot about the BNF and racism in this pretty extensive bio by the Guardian.--SidiLemine 13:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was also there at the time in RMS and it is totally untrues and (unaccepable to claim) that there was any racism against him at all. Clearly he invented this as a means to get attention for an otherwise dreary musician. At any point he could have made this issue known to the headmaster and / or his parents would have and it would have been dealt with. I wonder if any of the other Indians at the school at the time would claim the same thing. Ben Arnold —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.52.68.69 (talk) 00:04, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The claims for racism are far fetched, there was no outright racism against him at the prestigious grammar school, also note he played alongside James Taylor Quartet who attended the same school —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.192.59.194 (talk) 10:22, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to Wikipedia policy on sources, the Guardian info is reliable while unsigned users' claims of first-hand knowledge are original research and not allowable. See WP:OR. 76.218.68.67 (talk) 09:04, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nu Jazz[edit]

Isn't his style considered Nu jazz?--SidiLemine 13:10, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning of "Asian"[edit]

In England, "Asian" refers to people from the subcontinent. In America, "Asian" refers to people from East Asia. Someone please resolve the ambiguity of the sentence in the introduction: "His critically-acclaimed work combines Asian and other worldwide influences with elements of jazz and electronica and often presents themes such as multiculturalism, politics and spirituality. Pronunciation[edit]

I noticed in a BBC interview of NS by Lopa Kothari, that her pronunciation sounded more like "Nithin". Can someone add correct pronunciation guide please. Davidships (talk) 15:33, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Could someone please add an IPA for his name. I just heard someone pronounce it like Saw-henny on German radio and that certainly can't be correct. Is it Nee-teen or Ni(n)eteen ?
