Fair use rationale for Image:Nwua1.jpg[edit]

Image:Nwua1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This Article is Much Too Long[edit]

This article is almost ridiculously long, and is much longer than a typical Wikipedia or Encyclopedia article. Even articles on U.S. Presidents and major wars are shorter than this article. The reason is an overemphasis on mentioning even the tiniest details and events, and I suspect that at least some of the material here has simply been cut-and-pasted from a book or magazine article (or perhaps the PhD thesis cited). This article would greatly benefit from having an experienced editor cull the details and summarize the information into a more user-friendly and readable format. My guess is that you could cut this article in half and still retain the essential information contained in it. 2603:6080:C402:2A45:7D14:A93:80A7:18E (talk) 00:46, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Content regarding NWS in regards to SWilson2000's repeated edits[edit]

I'm not sure exactly what it is that you are talking about in regards to being banned from here or any STS boards nor do I have any reason for this to be a "personal attack". Simply put the facts are the facts and were referenced in numerous places and still referenced on Jayski's website. It is unforunate that you do not recognize what is factual instead of what you desire or prefer to see as the contributor.

I'm not sure why you feel that this information doesn't pertain to North Wilkesboro Speedway as it has EVERY reason as to why funding was not secured by the Save The Speedway group. Anyone who has followed the progress, or in the case the further decay of the track, knows that efforts fell apart and the person that was selected by Save The Speedway made the comment. Why he made the comment - I don't know but regardless it was a factual statement that is referenced. The financial backer did indeed make that comment even if it paints Save The Speedway in a bad light.

My recommendation, per Wiki's response as to what to include and what not to include which they have added to your talk page, would be that you actually post support of your unproven claim at this time that the person was arrested for fraud and then include that WITH the already stated and referenced items.

Stevie's daycare (talk) 04:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The claims that are being made by the referring article were made by an individual as a personal attack against certain people in an effort to hamper the process of reopening North Wilkesboro Speedway. I am personally a member of the group STS that this person made many blatant personal and slanderous attacks against us in which was eventually to into a legal battle in which I am not able to discuss. The user "Stevie's Daycare" has for a matter of over a year then reposted and made repeated personal attacks on myself(which is also why they have chosen the name "Steve's Daycare) as well as others, using not only Wikipedia but other websites as well in which he/she has been banned from. The user was also at one point named "Land of Make Believe" here on wiki and was banned once before for making the same personal attacks. If anyone wants to contact me personally about this issue please do so. I am open to comments and questions.

Also if an administrator reads this please contact me I have the original emails that were sent between myself and an administrator that corrected this problem once before. I have also notified them as to the situation. Swilson2000 (talk) 17:30, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Once again...it is not a PERSONAL attack regardless of how you want to try and paint the picture as that. And why you think that one ID is related to another is beyond me. This was simply a matter of looking at the history and then wondering WHY someone kept removing something that was referenced. Contrary to what you apparently believe the whole world isn't out to get you.

At any rate...even if the financial backer "supposedly" made an attack against the group it is still a matter of PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE and directly relates to the goings on to the speedway (or therefore the lack of any progress) and is DIRECTLY associated with the group which is why it was apparently originally referenced under the heading dealing with STS and should continue to be there.

Again if something really did happen that you can't talk about then feel free to mention it in the section ALONG with the documented, publicly reference articles. I have no issue with that what so ever but to try and slant what happened is incorrect.

Stevie's daycare (talk) 17:51, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article in question is not public knowledge, it was a slanderous article that was sent out in an apparent attempt by certain parties to hinder the process of finding financial backers. You seem to be the only one who has a problem with Save The Speedway and any other group who try and do something to help the speedway. If you did have any interest in the article on North Wilkesboro Speedway, you would spend your time making edits that are relevant and you would spend your time editing other sections and not just adding one junk article. Your the same person that has been banned on here as well as my message board and been thrown off Go Wilkes, I know this because you post the exact same portion of the article to discredit Save The Speedway on any forum or website that will allow you to do so. Instead of trying to hinder the process of reopening North Wilkesboro Speedway, use your time more wisely and help out. As I stated before I have emailed the administrators to take care of this issue. Swilson2000 (talk) 19:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop revert warring. You both risk being blocked for violation of Wikipedia:Three-revert rule. Note that editors with a conflict of interest about a subject are discouraged from editing articles about it. If you have a substantial legal concern with article content then see Wikipedia:Contact us/Article problem/Factual error (from enterprise).
Robert Smith's quote has been published by Jayski's Silly Season Site and The Charlotte Observer so regardless of how the man is viewed, it seems verifiable that he actually said it. That doesn't mean Wikipedia has to repeat it. The quote sounds a little derogatory and people can easily bicker after a failed business deal. I think the relevant part to an encyclopedic article is that they worked together without success and parted ways. Readers interested in more details can go to the reference. I suggest this text instead of the disputed:
"In 2006 the Save The Speedway group worked with investment banker Robert Smith in an attempt to get investors but they got in a disagreement and parted ways.[1] As of 2007, the group had not yet found money to purchase the track."
PrimeHunter (talk) 22:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SWilson2000 I have absolutely no idea why you think you know who I am or why I have supposedly gone to this location, or that location in an effort to discredit anything. I merely think that the history of events needs to be ACCURATE so when someone says, "Well why didn't Save The Speedway reopen the site?" they can look and say "Oh...there was a business deal that fell apart." I think that has A LOT to do with the time line on the demise of North Wilkesboro Speedway.

You don't like the wording of "kids" that Robert used...fine. I am fine with PrimeHunter's suggestion and have changed the entry to reflect what he has recommended.

PrimeHunter thank you for your insight and time in this matter and I hope that you will continue to keep an eye on this debate.

Stevie's daycare (talk) 00:25, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am fine by what PrimeHunter has suggested. Although I am still legally bound to not discuss the situation in great detail nor reveal the persons real name, as the article misprinted their name. To the user above I know who you are and will continue to add and edit the NWS article with useful information. As stated before I would suggest that you use your time more wisely and help to reopen the speedway and not try and run down any effort. Swilson2000 (talk) 01:58, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see the suggestion is acceptable to all parties. I see the reference first called the banker Robert Smith and then referred several times to a "Wilson" which sounded like the banker. If the reference is unclear about his name and no other known reference settles it then I suggest we just say "a New York investment banker" (like the reference does initially) without naming him. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:25, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually he was not an investment banker either, he was a housing developer which we found out later. I will make a partial edit without going into detail. Swilson2000 (talk) 02:55, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you PrimeHunter. And to SWilson2000...I hope you do continue to add and edit the NWS article with useful information - this is EXACTLY what needed to happen to begin with so that people have a clear understand of "what" and "why". That is also the reason I chose to revert the information back when I stumbled across the article and looked at the previous history. Sorry that it put your group in a bad light but at least with you being a member of this STS group I know why you removed the information like you did. I mean like PrimeHunter said it is easy to fall into bickering when a business deal goes south. And no I'm not trying to be sarcastic since you apparently think that with my every breath and key stroke I'm out to slander someone or drive the bulldozer that will tear down the concession stand at NWS.

On a closing note I would like to say that I'm glad you think you know who I am - especially since I don't know you. Hopefully we (and anyone else) can contribute to this article together in a factual nature - especially since you THINK you know who I am.

Thanks again PrimeHunter I appreciate the help and insight so that people can see how the speedway got to where it is today since the last race there.

Stevie's daycare (talk) 03:46, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No matter your goal, I don't expect you to make any further edits to the article since your one and only goal was to make sure that one article got placed. People already know what happened at the speedway and Save The Speedway had nothing to do with it, and I fail to see why you think that we are responsible for things that happen at the speedway, we are still in the process of working to reopen the speedway, but in the meantime we have become the single largest site for information and resources on North Wilkesboro Speedway, have successfully petitioned the state for a highway marker, and have almost met our funding goal to place a monument in a public park in Wilkes County.

In closing if you wish for people to see how the track got to where it is today I suggest that you research and edit the article so that every attempt to reopened the speedway and the actions of Bruton Smith is documented and stop targeting Save The Speedway solely, and if you so choose to research those efforts and actions you can do so on our site. Take care and I hope that if there is information you have on the speedway, please feel free to share and grow the article. Swilson2000 (talk) 15:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So nice of you to think that you don't expect me to make any further edits to the article. I will gladly make ANY edit to ANY page where there is information that is omitted or can be include to further the knowledge on a specific event WITHOUT asking for permission.

I honestly believe that what PrimeHunter mentioned in regards to editors with a conflict of interest is probably where this rush to judge, or your recurring paranoia, comes from. This ONE article had NOTHING to do with trying to lay blame at the feet of STS and I fail to see why you apparently feel that anything that doesn't fit the way you want it to should be omitted - other than because you claim you are a member of the group that the article referenced is less than stellar in nature. The NWS article contains numerous timelines and this is but a piece of overall timeline that bears mentioning. Sorry if you don't see it that way...again - I'm not out to lynch STS, you or anyone else.

In closing I do wish people to know how the track got to where it is today and I have researched numerous articles. Again...this is why I felt it was important that this particular piece be referenced in the article. It my sincere hope that you will realize that this isn't about "targeting" Save The Speedway and more about INFORMATION. I hope that you will stop wearing your feelings on your sleeves in regard to anything that shows the STS group in a way that you find unappealing. Stevie's daycare (talk) 18:04, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We have agreed on a neutral formulation and nobody has been blocked or banned from editing the article. Article talk pages are for discussing improvements to the article. I don't think this discussion needs to continue. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. Thanks for clearing it up from the admin side. Thanks again PrimeHunter. I'm done. Stevie's daycare (talk) 21:41, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Marker[edit]

Seriously someone needs to take care of the Stevie's Daycare that only comes on here to nit pick at legitimate contributions. North Wilkesboro Speedway is a proper name so it goes on one line, the marker will not allow this due to spacing, but on Wiki and other sites North Wilkesboro Speedway is one line proper name.Swilson2000

If the other lines like those with "sanc-tioned" are broken where they break on the plaque then it seems natural to me that the heading does the same. I modified a couple of other things to match the photo of the plaque. But I wouldn't object to skip all actual breaks at the same time and write:

NORTH WILKESBORO SPEEDWAY

Pioneer NASCAR dirt track. Built 1946; paved in 1958. Hosted sanctioned events, 1949-96. 5/8 mile oval 3 mi. W.

PrimeHunter (talk) 01:48, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really do not understand your distain. If anyone is "nit picking" anything it is you. You, or your group, did not update the change of direction or mileage so I did. I believe before you asked me to contribute things to better the article...I'm sorry...but I think that this classifies as a "legitimate contribution". I made the break at the same time that I made the correction to the direction and mileage so that it would reflect exactly what is on the sign / tombstone. I'm sorry that you have this apparent disgust and distain that no one can update something without stirring you into an absolute tizzy.

Placing all of the content on the same line as PrimeHunter suggested is fine with me. Especially if it will pacify you until the next time I post something that doesn't fit into whatever template you are using. As a matter of fact I'll take care of that right now... Extensive quotations[edit]

This article was listed for evaluation at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2009 April 26. Usage of quotation is set out by WP:NFC, which explains the circumstances under which non-free text should be used and notes that extensive quotations are forbidden. This article copied two paragraphs from When The Engines No Longer Roar: A Case Study of North Wilkesboro, NC and The North Wilkesboro Speedway, which I have removed. There was nothing transformative about the use of this material; it was simply borrowed wholesale for the sake of the information it contained. It has been removed. It would be appropriate to properly paraphrase and summarize the material, with small quotations if needed, in accordance WP:NFC and Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:32, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Elevation change[edit]

Edited out the bit about Riverside. No need to state that Riverside also had elevation change. Every road course NASCAR has ever competed on has had elevation changes, there's nothing unique or noteworthy about Riverside having elevation change that merits it being mentioned. What's special is that this oval track had elevation change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.71.220.47 (talk) 00:00, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Changed "NASCAR" to "Stock Car"[edit]

in referrence at the start, where it says the track currently hosts NASCAR Feeder series, the ASA Late Models and USAR Pro Cup

both of these organizations/series have nothing to do with NASCAR, the reason it's often con-strewed as a feeder, is because team use it to develop possible NASCAR top-3 series (Trucks, Nationwide, or cup)

so, i went ahead and modded this, it hasn't been a NASCAR Sanctioned track since 1996, folks

It still exists![edit]

It's not completely accurate to speak of the North Wilkesboro Speedway in the past tense. It still very much exists. I drove past it the other day on the way from Statesville to Boone. It's pretty much dilapidated and may never be used again, but it's still there. You can see the grandstand and a badly faded "Winston Cup Series" sign from right off US 421. Archival Effort & Possible Future iRacing Release[edit]

September 15, 2019, a Tweet from Dale Earnhardt, Jr. challenged Steve Meyers, the Exec. Vice President of iRacing Motorsport Simulations, to scan North Wilkesboro Speedway under the condition that the weeds, grass, and overgrowth were cleared from the racing surface, fencing & walls, and pit lane, in order for the iRacing 3D Scanning team to pay the facility a visit to capture the track's 3D Data for archival purposes. Dale Jr's Podcast, Dale Jr. Download, confirmed in Episode 275, that cleanup will be some time in December 2019. Also stated during the Podcast episode, iRacing has agreed to actually build and release the track in the future after the 3D data is collected shortly after the cleanup is considered 'good enough' to scan and use. It wasn't stated what sort of time frame is expected, but the plan is in place to fully release the track on the simulation platform in the future. The software team is expected to manipulate the data to have the track drive and handle as it would have in the 1990s, right around the time of NASCAR's last race at the track. 96.41.168.171 (talk) 13:00, 25 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
