Rollbacks today[edit]

Just to explain the rollbacks I performed on this article today: the user I rolled back has a history of harassing other editors, including myself, by doing things such as making piddling, trivial and sometimes inaccurate and contra-guideline and/or policy edits to articles they are watching. Extraordinary Machine 17:20, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The album was released in Canada on the same day; check the sources you've listed at your own convenience if you still think it's just a "trivial" edit. Otherwise I'm not particularly interested in your innocent act anymore. Velten 02:13, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering how many times Velten will follow me or some other editor against whom she has a grudge to an article they are watching, perform edits to said article in some puerile and bad-faith attempt to get back at them, and then vehemently deny any wrongdoing and accuse them of all sorts after they revert. Until she get blocked again?
The only way to deal with her is to simply revert her; if anyone wants to change the release date or the formatting or whatever, those edits can occur "naturally" and in good-faith, not as a means of irritating other editors to get revenge. Extraordinary Machine 21:27, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What "revenge"? I for one had never wanted this "hate" to be maintained; I wish you'd just let the past go already. I'm not here to frustrate you. All I did was change United States to North America for accuracy... Velten 23:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You've persistently denied harassing editors such as myself in the face of overwhelming evidence and consensus to the contrary; why do you expect to be believed when you say you're not here to "frustrate" me? Extraordinary Machine 19:20, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that was a long time ago. As I have said before, I am really not interested in lingering on that; I am just trying to cooperate with other editors, but currently you are the one who does not want to try that. Velten 22:36, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apostrophe[edit]

I can't see this mentioned in the article, but I'm curious... why is there an apostrophe in the album's title? (I don't have a problem with the article's title). The JPStalk to me 07:32, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I guess because the title was written by someone with a poor understanding of how to use Apostrophes. MrMarmite (talk) 13:43, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Despite a widespread, mistaken, belief that apostrophes can only be used for possessive forms, there's nothing wrong with the use of the apostrophe here. It is evidently there for visual clarity so that the title is less likely to be misread as "number one ess." Have a look at Apostrophe; at least two of the sources deal with this issue:
In the plurals of numerals:
This house was built in the 1930's.
(But 1930s is preferable).[1]
and
In writing the plurals of numbers, usage varies. Both of the following may be encountered:
If you're sending mail to the Continent, it's advisable to use continental 1s and 7s in the address.
If you're sending mail to the Continent, it's advisable to use continental 1's and 7's in the address.
Here, the first form is admittedly a little hard on the eye, and the apostrophes may make your sentence clearer. In most cases, though, you can avoid the problem entirely simply by writing out the number.[2]ProhibitOnions (T) 10:14, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Number 1's (Mariah Carey album)[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Number 1's (Mariah Carey album)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

"Sweetheart" Source[edit]

Even if the song did not officially appear in a Mariah Carey album prior to this number 1 greatest hits, the song cannot be claimed as previously unreleased because it was commercially released, just that it appeared on another artist's album. As such, I have added a link to the album "Life In 1472" by Jermaine Dupri on the track listing. ElMeroEse (talk) 05:59, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
