Pronunciation[edit]

I'm trying to get the pronunciation in IPA, but I can at most note what I think is the English pronunciation /nuːrəliːjə/, which is obviously no good. What language is "Nuwara Eliya" supposed to be in? --Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 14:48, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that it's Sinhala, but I couldn't swear to that. The pronunciation in the opening of the text is a fair British English approximation, and the IPA, of which I know little, looks about right. Despite its apearance, it's definitely pronounced as four syllables rather than six. A wonderful place incidentally. jimfbleak 06:15, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Demographics[edit]

In this edit [1] the numbers are referring to the statistics of the Nuwara Eliya District not the city [2].--Blackknight12 (talk) 02:17, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Climate[edit]

@Dan arndt: I don't get it. How is a more precise climate description a travel guide to you! The previous sentence gave the impression that all months had the same patterns, which is untrue. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 09:55, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mahmudmasri, comments like "it is less rainy and October-November are rainier, also from May to September, it becomes very cloudy." are hardly encyclopedic or metrological terms. Dan arndt (talk) 10:03, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In the demographics, change the word majority to plurality. There is no clear ethnic majority in Nuwara Eliya; it can only be said that the plurality of residents are Sinhalese. In fact, due to the linguistic tendencies of Moors, it could be said that the majority of the population speak Tamil (despite ethnic Tamils not being a majority). 192.170.216.45 (talk) 01:39, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
