Opening comment

When was "O" first performed? That would be good info for all the cirque de soleil show pages

Also: the Bellagio "O" ad is visible in Ocean's 11.

PR language in this and other Cirque show articles

The "Characters" and "Acts" sections of this article and other articles about Cirque du Soleil shows are largely characterized by the flowery, unencyclopedic language of Cirque du Soleil's playbills and website. It's essentially PR language, designed to sound pretty and profound, and it sometimes bears scant resemblance to the show creators' ultimate intentions or what actually appears onstage. As fascinating it sounds, it's not really appropriate for the narrative voice of a Wikipedia article to say, for example, that a church bell appearing in an act "beckons all to join the party… of life, love and death" as though that contributed to our factual understanding of the show!

So, many of these sections need to be re-written entirely to comply with WP:MOSFICT. The difficulty may lie in finding reliable sources for information to replace the current poetry. I have been reluctant to remove the offending sections until something better came along to replace them... but it has been several years now and I'm beginning to wonder if their presence is setting a self-perpetuating precedent, discouraging editors from adding factual content. Agreed. I'm also not sure that the article should lead off with a "History" section that consists solely of awards the show has won. superbatfish (talk) 20:33, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

I've been reworking a lot of the CdS articles, and unfortunately some do have quite a bit of advert content left in the Cast and Acts sections. If you could perhaps review a couple show pages and tell me which pages you feel are some of the better ones, I'll try to use that as a base to clean up this one. I've also been drafting a little information for the history, but have yet to add it, but yes as it stands the History section is a little weak because of the lack of more information, agreed.
