Musical settings[edit]

"The hymn has been set to music by several composers, including Johann Michael Haydn, Joseph Haydn." I find no source for this information, added by A2-33, except two CPDL pages and some YouTube videos. These show choirs singing an identical melody and setting partly under the name of Joseph Haydn, partly of Michael Haydn. The melody is not a work of either, but is first contained in a Cologne hymnal (Sirenes Symphoniacae) 1678. In Germany, it is popular with the text "Nun lobet Gott und singet". My information about the melody's origin is given in the catholic hymnal "Gotteslob" (2013), edition for the dioceses of Hamburg, Osnabrück and Hildesheim, Nr. 832. I suppose that nor the setting is by one of the Haydns, but has been attributed to them by some composing choir director. --Rabanus Flavus (talk) 04:03, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
