Vandalism and swearing from user 46.177.102.101

{{admin help}} This guy 46.177.102.101 made a series of unconstructive, unjustified and unproper edits. I made the corrections providing an explanation and he kept doing the same thing. At his last edit he continued his unconstuctive work (changed the name colors of the club for no reason for the thousandth time) and he called me names in Greek, writing on the article. Have a read of Wikipedia:Vandalism. If you install Twinkle in the "gadgets" section of you preferences - you get extra menus to help you revert edits and add standard warnings. Use of the standard warnings prevents any incorrect meaning - full list can be seen at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. When you get past warning No. 4, you report it to WP:AIV. I've added a warning to their page - I'll take your word on the language used as Google Translate does not do it justice! But it's not allowed in any language - it breaches WP:CIVIL  Ronhjones  ^(Talk) 19:26, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

International record

As I explained in my edit summary the fact that we are talking about a group stage is already metioned in the "notes" section on the right side of the infobox. We don't have to mention it yet again in the "achievement" section. It's clearly an exaggeration and it doesn't make any sense at all. When you describe an achievement you just wrıte "Final", "Semi-final" or "European Champions". Additional information regarding the competition format or the phase format (whether it was a group or not) should be described in the "notes" section. I hope it's perfectly clear to you now. Finally I have to remind you that the differences that have to do with the competition format are not "different concepts" as you suggest. They are merely format differeces. As far as the club's achievement is concerned, they are essentially the same. The club reached the quarter-finals, regardless of what the format was. Gtrbolivar (talk) 06:29, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

Template malfunction?

There is a discrepancy here:Olympiacos B.C.#Matches against NBA teams. As you can see some marks/items (|-) appear in the "venue" section that shouldn't. I don't know for sure, but I guess it's probably a template malfunction. I looked up other similar pages (Real Madrid Baloncesto#Matches against NBA teams, FC Barcelona Bàsquet#Matches against NBA teams) and it's the same all over. Admins are not necessarily experts in template syntax. That certainly looks like a problem with template {{Basketballbox}}, which has been edited recently by user Howard the Duck, so I will by this edit ping him to have a look. I suspect that this edit may be cause of the problem, but I am not confident enough to revert it myself. I have already asked from the much esteemed admin Ronhjones to protect this page due to ongoing vandalism for months. Personally I'm afraid that a week may likely not be enough here; the disruption seems to be going on for quite some time. Quarterfinals / Top 16 / Last 8

In every major basketball club's article there is an "International record" section, where we list the club's achievements in European and Worldwide competitions. In this section (as is common practice in wikipedia) we include the seasons in which the club has reached at least the quarter-finals (the 8 best/top/last teams) of a European or Worldwide competition. The current format (and the most common format traditionally) of any major European competition and especially the Euroleague, which is the top-tier European club competition, is this: Group Stage, Top 16, Quarterfinals, Final Four, Final. In the "International record" section we include the seasons in which the club managed to enter (at least) the 8 best/last teams in a European or Worldwide competition and in the most cases that means the quarterfinals. The thing is that in three particular seasons and specifically in 1979–80 FIBA Korać Cup, 2002–03 Euroleague and 2001–02 Euroleague the format was different: there were no quarterfinals. The format was: Group Stage, Top 16, Final Four. The Top 16 stage worked like this: the top 16 teams were placed into four groups of four teams each. The top teams of each of the four groups advanced to the Final Four. In all those three seasons Olympiacos finished second in the Top-16 groups and that means that the club entered the 8 best, the 8 top teams of each competition. In absence of a quarterfinal stage, the second teams of each of the four groups complete the top 8, the best 8 teams of the competition (despite the fact that they were eliminated from the Final Four). Consequently, the phase was indeed Top-16 and not quartefinals, but as far as the achievement of the club is concerned, the second place in the group clearly means that the club was one of the best 8 teams of the competition in each of these three seasons. Hence "Last-8" and not "quarterfinals". The ip user - Basque&Roll claims that since there was no quarterfinal stage in these three seasons, all the teams that were eliminated in the Top-16 are exactly the same thing, they have exactly the same ranking regardless of their final position in the group (doesn't matter if they finished second in the group, or third, or fourth). This is absurd beyond imagination. According to this absurdity, the bottom team of a group that finished with zero wins should have the same ranking as the team that finished the group in the second place. The reality is this: The top four teams qualified for the Final Four and the second teams were among the 8 best / 8 top teams of the competition. Take a look at this: Panathinaikos V.C.#International record It says Champions League 1996-1997 5th place. Now take a look at that: fr:Coupe des champions de volley-ball masculin 1996-1997#Tours de poules there were two groups of 8 teams each. Only the top two teams of each group qualified for the Final Four. All the remaining 12 teams were eliminated. This doesn't mean that each of the 12 eliminated teams finished at the same position. For example Panathinaikos finished 3rd in his group and was eliminated from the Final Four, but as far as the club's achievement (ranking) is concerned, they finished in the 5th place (along with the other group's 3rd-placed team) in this particular competition. Hence it says "5th place" under the "achievement" section. Olympiacos B.C. finished second in the Top-16 groups in 1979–80 FIBA Korać Cup, 2002–03 Euroleague and 2001–02 Euroleague and was one of the 8 best teams these seasons. on the night of 17th of September 2019, Olympiacos BC retired the number 7 in honour of the contributions made to the team by Vassilis Spanoulis. The ceremony was branded "The night of the Legend", where a lot of old team players were present as well as players from other teams that played against Spanoulis, in order to honour him.
