Oncorhynchus masouMasu salmon – Pages for all other salmon species use common names as titles, should follow that convention here, only use latin name for title when not common name existsBusaccsb (talk) 02:35, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. The species is referred to with multiple alternative common names (e.g. masu salmon, cherry salmon, seema, Japanese salmon; and, for instance, of these cherry salmon is the American Fisheries Society name for the taxon, see FishBase). In addition, O. masou includes multiple putative subspecies and forms in Japan, whose taxonomic status is quite confused and disputed, and which are referred to (also in English text) with their Japanese-based names, sometimes inconsistently (yet by other criteria they might all be the same). Note also that the FishBase entry corresponding to masu salmon is about the nominate subspecies O. masou masou, not of O. masou in broader sense. By contrast this is and should be an entry of the taxonomic concept O. masou in the broad sense. Olaff (talk) 23:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, based on what you have said, I would like to withdraw the request. Can you tell me how to do that? And thanks, you mentioned several things of which I was unaware, having no personal experience with the species.Busaccsb (talk) 03:51, 20 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
