Similarity to Life in Hell?[edit]

In numerous attempts, I cannot find any official link between this movie and Life in Hell creator Matt Groening, yet the animation sequences bear striking resemblances to characters in that strip. At the same time, my research has shown that the animation team in One Crazy Summer did indeed go on to do The Simpsons on The Tracey Ullman Show. Again, it appears that this link only appears AFTER the making of this movie, though. Does anyone have any confirmation one way or the other regarding the One Crazy Summer rabbit and the Life in Hell rabbit? Ehurtley 04:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, after much searching, the best I can find is that OCS animator David Silverman LATER went on to do The Simpsons shorts that were part of the Tracy Ullman show, and continued to the full series. He appears to have had zero link with Groening before The Tracey Ullman Show, though. I also can't find any references anywhere where Silverman says that Life in Hell was an influence on him, although LiH does predate One Crazy Summer by almost a decade, so it is possible that LiH was an influence on Silverman. Hoops McCann[edit]

The lead character's name is probably a reference to the Steely Dan song "Glamour Profession" from their 1980 album Gaucho. The song's lyrics begin, "6:05 / Outside the stadium / Special delivery / For Hoops McCann". 00:58, 11 July 2008 (UTC)UKMikey

I would point out that the context of the song is, as Donald Fagen said in the intro to the song on one of the earlier Steely Dan tours, about an "enterprising young fellow based in Los Angeles." A careful run-through of the lyrics would suggest that Hoops McCann is not currently playing basketball; most of the song suggests he's a fast rising star in the drug trade... The only line that would suggest any basketball is in the first stanza below the mention of the drug delivery about to happen. To me, the lyrics, "One on one/He's schoolyard superman/Crashing the backboard/He's Jungle Jim again" evokes a 'former' time before the lure of easy money selling Bolivian Marching Powder took center stage. Thus, unless someone with more attachment to this page than I have thinks otherwise, I'll probably change the mention of Hoops McCann to reflect the understanding of the song that most rabid Steely Dan fans (including myself) would agree on.
