Hans Reiser[edit]

The article has an unsourced claim, marked as "citation needed" since May 2010, that Hans Reiser was a co-founder of the organization. In fact, available sources suggest he distinctly wasn't. He wasn't present at any of the eleven weekly meetings in what appears to be the organization's first semester.

If someone turns up a source that substantiates this claim, that'll be interesting. For now I'm removing it, as it's been there for over three years (and longer before the tag was applied) inviting anyone to do so. Greg Price (talk) 07:46, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

@Gnp: Sorry to dredge up the past. The sources actually state that he was a member before the spring of 1989. On March 9, 1989, one of the meeting topics is Hans Reiser who is referred to as 'Father' Hans. The minutes state that he worked on a draft of the constitution before the OCF was officially a club. The minutes also state that Reiser was a member in a previous semester which is confusing. Also, the first minutes refer to members who weren't at the first meeting. It sounds like there weren't minutes for some time; I'll have to check up on that. According to his Wikipedia page, Reiser was in and out of UC Berkeley for 13 years, so at least the timeline fits. @Occamsrazorwit: Ah, well spotted. So Reiser was involved in the organization in some way in some earlier phase, including a phase where the organization's constitution was being written. This makes it plausible that he might have been something that could be described as a co-founder, though we still don't have a source for actually applying that label. Quite apart from Hans Reiser, it'd be very interesting to find a source that goes into that history -- when was OCF actually founded, who was involved, what were their aims at the time, etc. Greg Price (talk) 08:31, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
