Player page[edit]

Hi, I am trying to make a page for Janie Takeda, who graduated in 2015 from Oregon and is currently on the USA softball team. Many great athletes have come out of Oregon and it would be great to see where those athletes are now and the success they've had in their careers. Rookie minor and major league baseball players get wikipedia pages for just being on a team. By making this page, I am opening up the softball community and others to the stars we have growing at universities and the influence they have on their fans. I think this is a great! Since most softball players don't have pages on Wikipedia it is allowing softball players to get recognized and it allows Wikipedia to have more information on the subject. Outline

Since I want to create a page for Janie Takeda, I would start the article with early life information like birthday, family, education, and how Janie started in softball. I will then add on Janie's bat preference, throwing and batting stances, height, and any other prevalent information that helped her succeed in softball. For the rest of the article I will add sections that talk about her involvement with softball. These sections will go in chronological order starting with high school and go into University of Oregon, NPF Dallas Charge, and Team USA. Each of these sections will include statistics about Takeda on each team, awards from each team, and other connections like service involved with the team. In the University of Oregon section I will include Takeda's major/minor, graduation year, and awards specific from the school. With the Dallas Charge and USA team, I will add signing dates and start to end dates while Takeda was on the team. This article will focus heavily on Janie's success in her softball career, but also some personal information and other involvements that Janie is known for outside of softball. My goal for the article is provide information that makes Janie known on the softball field and off in the softball community.

Uniforms[edit]

Where did someone get 384 combinations with the new uniforms?--tess 21:17, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Here's how they got it. While major combinations (Helmet, Jersey, Pants) work out to 48, there's also 4 different colors of socks, and 2 different colors of shoes. If you include both of those as possible combinations, there's 384 (3x4x4x4x2). There's rumored to be a black-colored helmet coming, so if they add it, it'll be 64 major combinations, and 512 total combinations. It really depends upon what you consider a combination. Track Town?[edit]

Sad that this article doesn't have a section about Oregon's rich track and field and cross-country history. Even a table of the championships would be great. Even if something is "common knowledge", on Wikipedia it needs a citation to a reliable source. Otherwise the articles would become filled up with all sorts of speculation and inaccuracies. If it is widely known, it should be easy enough to find a reliable source that mentions the rivalry. Also, remember that Wikipedia is read by people outside of Oregon, and that not everyone in Oregon follows sports. Katr67 (talk) 19:39, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moved football season recaps[edit]

I've moved the football season-by-season recaps to the Ducks football main page. It is a much more appropriate location for it, since this is the page for the entire athletic department. If that was allowed to continue on this page, this page would spiral out of control, especially if other sports started sprouting seasonal recaps. I would argue that the uniforms section should probably be moved as well, and the achievements be merged into a writeup about a brief history of the football program. I would also not be against removing the text of the season recaps entirely from the Ducks football page and instead have just a list of seasons, with the current text as the introductory paragraph for the respective pages.Cluskillz (talk) 19:13, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have rewritten the football section, moving the Uniforms section to Oregon Ducks football page and merging the Achievements section into paragraph form. I have also rewritten the basketball section since, like the football section, had seasonal updates. Both sections now refer to the basic histories and information of the programs, leaving specific information for their respective pages. Both are pretty brief and can use some expanding, but preferably not too specific like the season recaps...just focus on the major milestones. The basketball section I overwrote seems to already be duplicated on the basketball page, so no information appears to have been lost.Cluskillz (talk) 17:33, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oregon Wrestling[edit]

Surprised that there is not mention of the controversy regarding the university's decision to drop wrestling. For those unfamiliar with the situation, the university chose to drop wrestling after the 2007-2008 season. There was a tremendous outcry from the wrestling community about the decision, especially since there were no reasons for Title IX to play a factor and the decision coincided with the announcement to add baseball and women's competitive cheerleading. Last I heard, the wrestlers sued the university, claiming that state law and university policy was violated, but the judge ruled against them in October 2008.

School colors[edit]

While the football team does have an interesting and somewhat famous set of colors, that doesn't mean that the school has changed its colors to include gray. The official colors are green and yellow, per this link. Please don't add "gray" as a school color on this page. If you want to update the Oregon Ducks football article to include a list of all the colors they've used on uniforms, that would be more appropriate, though again, the official colors haven't changed. Nickname[edit]

So it rains a lot. I get that. But "Ducks" is hardly a common mascot choice, and I think it's a shame that the article does not speak to the history of its usage. Was it adopted in the 1970s, when Oregon was openly discouraging people from moving there (remember the greeting cards: You can tell when summer comes to Oregon . . . the rain gets warmer", or does it go back decades or what? They were the Webfoots originally, and Ducks gradually replaced it. Early 1900s? Webfoots came out of the 1890s and was a common name in the Pacific Northwest (The Portland Webfoots played professional baseball, etc).128.193.162.56 (talk) 03:42, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Experiment with National championship timelines[edit]

I experimented with adding a timeline to the section on Oregon Ducks #National championships.

For layout reasons, I did it as two timelines, as seen at right.

Mens Lacrosse[edit]
