Keller review[edit]

Keller made one small accounting error in his review. Oscar is actually the 13th opera to be premiered at Santa Fe Opera, not the 14th. What Keller probably did was to count the operas tagged as world premieres in the back of the program book, and he got 13. But he probably forgot that Oscar was in that list also, so that he double-counted it. But that's the only mistake in his review, which otherwise is pretty much dead on the money. I was at the first night of Oscar. It is the worst opera I've ever seen, an absolute piece of PC junk that was a total waste of Santa Fe Opera's time and resources. I don't have a problem with gay marriage, but I have a problem with bad operas. I'm sorry for Opera Philadelphia that they're stuck with performing this turkey. 74.207.79.60 (talk) 00:16, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Quite frankly, reading the self-justifying blather from "Theo" Morrison's own website about the changes to the ending, where Oscar Wilde "turns back to offer us a final gift of his playful wit", when the last line is exactly the same as it was in Santa Fe, i.e. no change worth noting, put me much in mind of the snarky Dorothy Parker line about the point "at which Tonstant Weader Fwowed up". It makes me agree more and more with Keller's overall evaluation, namely that this opera deserves to sink into obscurity as a shallow "gay martyr opera". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.207.79.98 (talk) 00:52, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
