Pubs[edit]

01/07/2009 There's not even as many as 20 any more: the Westbourne is now Westbourne spice per the below, the Black Horse is currently closed (though that may be temporary if someone comes in to run it again), the Woolpack is closed and for sale, the Fleece is closed and has a for sale sign up but has been that way for about six months, and the Summercross is either being turned into a residential home or standing empty depending on who you ask. The Bowling Green has been closed for a couple of years and had a big street auction of all the stuff in the bar. I don't count more than 17, 18 if you assume the Black Horse will reopen. And yet someone insists on keeping the number at 22 on the main page...

That's 1 per 705 head of population. I'm aiming to include only those in the Census LSOA Leeds 004A-E and 003A-D accounting for 14,100 of population. Are there any more?

Obviously the population used to be lower, and then number of pubs higher. My wife says there used to be over 30.

Defunct pubs include:

What needs sources:

  • Source of stone for Parliament's foundations
  • History, Ancient
  • Church History
  • Charter of Market
  • Chippendale's birthplace is probably OK since it is in the Chippendale article.
  • Turner's associations need espansion and sources
  • Wesley's associations likewise
  • Wharfedale Printing Machine needs expansion and sources. Otley Museum should be a good source for that.


Transport: Bus routes may be unencyclopedic? Would we not be better served by a brief summary of road links, a statement that buses run to leeds, menston, bradford and Harrogate as well as surrounding towns, and a link to the transport compny websites? Image[edit]

why is the otley and yeadon labour party notable enough for a photograph in this article? the building is not historical or interesting, and the area including otley is held by the liberal democrats, and it is not mentioned anywhere else in the article. the only notable thing about it is that someone chose to photograph that instead of the actually interesting new library it is directly over the road from. 82.30.172.173 (talk) 10:35, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Old Otliensians[edit]

Why no mention of Old Otliensians Rugby Union Football Club in the sports section?

Old Otliensians was formed by members of Prince Henry’s G.S.in 1926 and a full fixture list was arranged for season. 1926-27 and by 1934 the ‘Ensians had two teams.

After the war Otliensians reformed in 1947, mainly through the efforts of Secretary Mr. Ron Mountain and in the season 1948-49 two teams were firmly established. In 1958-59, Otliensians won the Yorkshire Shield by defeating Castleford by 17-3 pts. In 1966 a lease on the present land was obtained and after hard work preparing the ground, the first changing rooms were erected and the Club moved from playing at PHGS. In 1968-69 the 3rd team was established and this was followed by a 4th team in 1972-73.

In 1971 the Clubhouse was extended and the following year, the grounds were purchased with the assistance of a loan from the RFU and grants from Otley U.D.C. and the DOE. After further improvements, the Clubhouse was opened in 1973 with a game against the Anti- Assassins. In 1980-81 Ensians lost in the Silver Trophy final 3-0 pts to Wheatley Hills and were winners of Yorkshire League Two in season 1990-91.
