Original Research[edit]

I removed the following link as it does qualify as OR:

If there can be found a more reliable source than a Tripod site that even admits that the info came from "Family and friends of my grandfather" I would be glad to add it back in myself. Thought I would at least put it here for others to have a chance at researching. Have to admit, the pictures ARE cool though. exit2dos2000 09:19, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

is there any citation for this edit ? [1]

Yes. I changed it to link to Area code 519/226. PKT 15:52, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rename: Owen Sound, OntarioOwen Sound

Per WP:CANSTYLE, this seems to be the primary or only use of the term "Owen Sound". an internet search of this term (excluding Wikipedia mirrors, and the terms Ontario and Canada) yields a few hundred thousand hits, the first ten pages of which are all businesses (or linkfarms) related to the city. Owen Sound currently redirects to Owen Sound, Ontario. Mindmatrix 03:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - Google search on "Owen Sound" seems to be overwhelmingly about this city; I can't seem to find any other Owen Sounds and no WP disambiguation issues have emerged to date. Dl2000 (talk) 03:56, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Champlain and the Bruce Peninsula[edit]

Mainstream archeology has pretty much put to rest the idea that Champlain went any further west than somewhere around the present day communities of Wasaga Beach and Collingwood:

Possibly a silly question...[edit]

When I wrote up a brief article about Owen Sound's mayor earlier this year, even her own mayor's message on the city website was giving her surname as just Lovell, but I see that the same message is now signed as Lovell Stanners. Mainly out of curiosity: did she get married this year, or was she already married and simply switched to using a double surname for other reasons? Bearcat (talk) 20:36, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mayor of Owen Sound to wed

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Bayshore Broadcasting Corp.

The Mayor has announced that wedding bells will sound in the city on June 21st when she and Brantford Doctor Bruce Stanners will exchange vows in a private family ceremony.

Lovell says her fiancé will be practicing medicine here in Owen Sound, but its unclear yet just what type of practice he will open.

The Mayor jokes this is the ultimate in physician recruitment.

She says they used to be neighbours and keep in touch when Stanners moved to practice medicine in Brantford.

They have been been seeing each other for the past several years, and it was a few months ago they decided to tie the knot.

Lovell jokes while she supports the concept of the city clerk now being able to perform marriage ceremony's, she will be married by a minister in her home. Deconstructhis (talk) 20:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks. Bearcat (talk) 21:36, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Owen Sound bay"?[edit]

I've added a citation request tag to the recent edit which changed the name of the main body of water within the city from "Owen Sound" to "Owen Sound bay". I ran "Owen Sound" on the Canadian federal government geographical place name site and it failed to substantiate the name "Owen Sound bay", although it did include the name "Owen Sound harbour":

http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/index_e.php

If "Owen Sound bay" is a strictly local naming convention, I think that should be mentioned in the article alongside the "official" name, but it doesn't seem right to me to replace one with the other without a reference from a reliable source to substantiate it. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 20:21, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I had never heard of "Owen Sound bay" but I did some searching on the City of Owen Sound's site and found this link that mentions; "Georgian Bay : Often called "the sixth Great Lake", Georgian Bay bisects Owen Sound and becomes Owen Sound Bay.". I will add the reference to the article. PKT(alk) 21:41, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

This "map" is weird. Nobody can figure out what it means.--dunnhaupt (talk) 17:11, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rude, but...[edit]

While I can't find anything but anecdotal sources, apparently this town is locally known as "The Elephant's Asshole." While this might seem incredibly rude, an image such as http://i.imgur.com/glhNF.jpg will explain why. Reventtalk 15:57, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
