What?

Why is the website encrypted? And who is this guy? https://www.owens.edu/library/images/sink.jpg

Naming

I removed the following sentence from the main article:

Owens was named in honor of former Toledo mayor Donna Owens (1983-1989)

The reasoning is that the school was called Owens Technical College in the 1970s. I don't think they would name it to honor future Toledo mayor Donna Owens, so if someone can provide a source as to the school's name, please change the article accordingly. -Oatmeal batman 05:20, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

With re: to the name of college--I believe it was named for Michael J. Owens, a major leader in the early 1900's glass industry of Toledo, OH. Would you please make this change? Thanks.

Page Lock?

This page was used by the college to demonstrate the hazards of online only research. With the page locked and featuring factual information, students with existing course materials relating to the wiki will be unaware of what has happened. "Used by the college to demonstrate the hazards of online only research." And you attempted to do that by vandalising the page. I think we did a nice job of showing how we remove vandalism, block offenders, and if they are numerous, protect pages. Why don't you try adding accurate, verifiable information to the article instead of vandalising it? I can show how dirty my city is by throwing litter in the street, but I choose not to. The school doesn't own this Wikipedia article. And the fact that the article is about their institution in no ways give them the right to deliberately insert misinformation into the article. If the members of this institution really want to illustrate the effective uses and possible pitfalls of a wiki, they can find a contructive way to do so.

A bit offtopic, but I do have to question whether this is truly legitimate. I have yet to see any conclusive proof. If this is legitimate then I am very disappointed that a college instructor, lecturer, or professor would choose this harmful pedagogical method. In addition to questioning the ethics, I would also question the effectiveness of this method. --ElKevbo 19:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

If the college administration indeed initiated the vandalism to this page, then they have violated three site policies: WP:OWN, WP:POINT, and WP:NOT. Regardless of whose idea it was, vandalism is vandalism, and the actual lesson here is that it isn't as easy to get away with destructive editing as some novice users suppose. Because all of our over 1.4 million articles matter. When it comes to factual accuracy, it doesn't matter whether the subject is highly notable, quite notable, somewhat notable or only just notable. Aecis ^{Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984.} 23:04, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't see how any of this is able to be up. There aren't any reliable sources or citations.

Why?

What was the deal with the senior administration being deleted on grounds of being a "directory"? This article is ABOUT a college. In case you forgot or don't understand, ElKevbo, the president has a major role in determining the direction in which the college goes. The same is said for the "senior administration". So, to summarize, you have deleted not a "directory", but important facts about the college. Would you like to defend your actions? I don't think it's appropriate to simply insert a list of personnel into this article. If there is additional context that makes these persons encyclopedic and notable then please add that material. I certainly agree that the "president has a major role in determining the direction" but that role was not at all explained or described in any way. If he or she has done something notable, please tell us (and cite sources, too, please!). --ElKevbo 23:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Further Expansion

Is anyone planning to add a section on the planned Tiffin campus?

It is nice to see the Tiffin campus coming along. In a week or so I hear they will be announcing who the dean of the new campus will be. I am extremely excited about this coming event.

Recent Edits

I fail to understand why the Owens marketing department has been editing their wikipedia page and removing information. They are trying to hide their partnership with 3M AND their new Tiffin campus. What's the deal? Why deny that these things are true, they are bringing you more money, right? I guess that's what happens when you work at a school that is losing students but continues to claim they have record highs. What a shame.
