Need help with translating Portuguese in the 1st paragraph where it talks about the different names of this bread[edit]

Basically the title. I was going to do it, but then I realized that some words are difficult to translate, and some have weird translations when translated into English. Does anyone know Portuguese enough to help with the translation? I am not confident enough to do much since I'm afraid I'll end up with the wrong translation by mistake. Please help me! After thinking about it since I last posted here, I agree. There's no way to translate them without it looking weird, so yes it's better to leave them as is untranslated. At least the one for "loaf bread" was easier, but I wonder if it was better to translate that one as loaf of bread? Though wouldn't pão filão be written differently with "de" in the middle? On second thought, leave that one alone. I don't want to overthink it too much. Haha :P Anyway, thanks for replying! :D Hajiru (talk) 21:43, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm okay with your translation for pão filão. Filão is being used as an adjective in that phrase, whereas having a "de" there would imply that the bread is made of filão which doesn't make much sense. The "ão" in filão is acting as an augmentative for the portuguese word "fila" (line), so a literal translation would be something like "big long bread".
