Prominent Personality

Nisha Shankar from Karengal family is one of the most prominent personality in Palakkad. Best known for her simplicity, her charm encourages people to follow her footsteps and be more like her. Her contribution for the development of the country is beyond words. We really hope more and more Nisha Shankar's come forward and make this earth a better place to live. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.237.207.63 (talk) 04:51, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is about Palakkad Municipality Not about Palakkad District[edit]

I think most of the editors in this page mistook this article as Palakkad District. This article is about Palakkad municipality in kerala and not about Palakkad District. There is another article for palakkad district. Actually I wanted to edit the whole page, but I don't know whether it will be right. So if there is someone out there, please send suggestions to midoreigh[at]gmail.com There are so many things to be removed from this article. Midoreigh (talk) 19:43, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I agree. Perhaps we can add information about the city first, and then remove the information about the district which is redundant here. Tanyasingh (talk) 06:28, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please re-work the article[edit]

Why is there a list of 'Places of Worship' in this article? Isn't such a list more appropriate in a tourist guide, even then just as an appendix? Is Palakkad really known for these places of worship, like, for example, Varanasi, Kanchipuram or Madurai are for theirs?

The fact is that there isn't much to be written about a small city like Palakkad. That doesn't mean that a better article cannot be put together without making lists of everything that exists there. It would be a good idea for whoever is behind the article, to take a look at articles on other Indian cities, learn how they have been written and then re-edit the Palakkad article.

Since the above comment was posted, someone has removed the list of places of worship and placed (only to re-post it elsewhere!) Then user (or users?) 'hopeyouths' has posted a paragraph about the CSI church. Hopeyouth, please remove that paragraph. Why is a list of places of worship relevant to the article about a small town which is not really famous for these places? And why does hopeyouths think that even if the other places of worship are not included, the CSI church should be included? This is not to speak against temples, churches of mosques. It is about what is relevant and what is not in such an article. Even the other list, i.e. places of interest, is not relevant. The information about the Palakkad fort and the Jain temple can be incorporated in the body of the article without making lists.

If there isn't much to write about Palakkad, let it be so. But please don't make lists of this and lists of that. 192.30.202.19 15:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As i mentioned earlier this article contains so many things which are not related to Palakkad Municipality, but rather related to Palakkad district. If places of works is to be added i don't think this is the right place. It should be added in the Palakkad district article. Midoreigh (talk) 19:53, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - Places of worship in and near Palakkad town page need not be merged with this article of Palakkad. We can always include a synopsis about the topic in Palakkad page. A link to the main article can also be maintained in this page(as it is maintained now). - --Samaleks 13:48, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there a separate heading on "Karnaki Temple"? It can be grouped under places of workship with a brief summary of it. The current text looks largely out of proportion. rams81 (talk) 03:16, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria for Places of Interest[edit]

I have noticed that over a period of time, editors seem to add places that are in and around Palakkad district into this Places of Interest section. Eventually it ends up as a huge list running into 20-30 entries. First everyone should check the notability of the place of interest. Obviously we cannot add every park and every temple in the district. I suggest we follow a guideline - notability, popularity, historical importance and the place should fall within the muncipal limits of the Palakkad Town or 10km radius from the town. rams81 (talk) 15:28, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

C.S.I Church of Hope, Melparamba[edit]

The post about C.S.I Church of Hope, Melparamba is relevant because it is the only remaining presbyterian church in Palakkad on Gothic style and is visited by foreigners and predecessors of the German and British people who has left India after independence. The question about why other places of religious places are not entered may be because of the fact that the wikipedia is encyclopedia built by contributions from many and not by a single person. A person who knows about his subject can contribute and others who know about other religious places can post their knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaajvel (talkcontribs) 02:46, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If that is the case, can you post verifiable and credible references to your point? A website or blog about the church by itself is not considered credible. rams81 (talk) 14:36, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Or, shall we just remove this section. It will open up a Pandora's box with a never ending list of temples, churches and mosques. If you check articles of other towns and cities, there aren't any such section. rams81 (talk) 16:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the CSI Church of Hope since the reference link does not clarify if the place is in Kasaragod. The place in Palakkad is Mepparamba rams81 (talk) 16:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The ancient name of the place is Melparamba which has become Mepparamba with the passage of time. When I made correspondence with some foreigners they have asked me have u changed its name? The references which are verifiable and credible are added as requested by user rams81. The wikimapia link of the place is here: http://wikimapia.org/1665359/CSI-chuirch-of-hope-mepparamba — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaajvel (talkcontribs) 01:54, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Topography map- Palakkad (Oct 7, 2015)[edit]

Consensus needed for : For article Palakkad: regarding a simple topography map (from commons, with good source), File:Bharathapuzha_map.PNG. Consensus obtained here at user's talk page, to retain the topo map. Copy of it is given below. Thanks, 2know4power (talk) 16:47, 8 October 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Hello Yamaguchi,

For article Palakkad: A simple topography map (from commons, with good source), File:Bharathapuzha_map.PNG showing Palakkad, Bharathapuzha river, Western Ghats with Palakkad gap, seemed relevant, so I added it here. It has been removed, by your edit; without giving any summary as to why, may be it was removed by mistake. This topo map is useful to this article, so it can stay there. Please suggest improvements, if any.

Thanks, 2know4power (talk) 00:03, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello 2know4power, thank you for contacting me regarding the Palakkad article. I see that the image has been restored to the Geography section, which looks fitting, and thank you for your additional constructive changes as well. Regards, Yamaguchi先生 00:09, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Following up on this conversation, is there a better topographical map image available for use in this article? On second glance, File:Bharathapuzha_map.PNG looks like it would be more fitting elsewhere, such as the Bharathappuzha article. No actual mention of Palakkad is made in the image, and I imagine that may be confusing to some readers. Regards, Yamaguchi先生 00:15, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Yamaguchi, thanks for your reply. The article Palakkad says, the place has 2 names. As you pointed out, the map is labeled with only one name - Palghat, so thanks to your suggestion, I have added both - Palakkad & Palghat - in map caption for display. Map (although simple looking) shows local topography - Palakkad mountain gap.Thanks,2know4power (talk) 01:43, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Yamaguchi, for working towards reaching a consensus, and acting with good faith. Regards, 2know4power (talk) 17:41, 8 October 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Southest[edit]

Hi it says Southest. Is this a typo for Southeast or Southwest? ϢereSpielChequers 15:47, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed Thanks for spotting this. It's southeast. Southwest of Kozhikode would have meant the place is in the middle of the sea. – Uanfala (talk) 16:57, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
