Conservative Label

It must be noted that Palm Beach Atlantic University is a "conservative" school as many of its practices cannot be associated with mainstream protestant Christianity.

Palm Beach Atlantic University was founded as a Southern Baptist school of higher education in 1968. To say that it is not affiliated with mainstream evangelical thinking is incorrect. Today it is non-denominational in its affiliation, which was a wise decision on the part of the PBA board of trutees. That being the case, over the last 39 years it has for the most part followed mainline evangelical Christian teaching, thinking and practice regarding schools of Christian higher education.

Response to above: Please note that it was said "many of its practices cannot be associated with mainstream protestant Christianity". It does not say "it is not affiliated with mainstream evangelical thinking." There is a big difference there. Things such as mandatory chapel attendance, mandatory community service programs, extremely strict visitation policies, and the needless injection of religious material in to classes such as mathematics have been abandoned by most other Christian schools. In the minds of those associated with the institution, it may appear to be mainstream. However, in the mind of the objective person, the practices of the institution would be viewed as conservative when compared to other universities. Also, please keep in mind that this is an encyclopedia article, not an advertisement.
