September 1838[edit]

I've changed the text that referred to the chartist meeting in September 1838 that was attended by 20,000 people. Contemporary sources state that this meeting in fact took place in Roscoe Field, an open space to the north west of the town (near the street now called Roscoe Road). See p. 314 of Thomas' Local Register [1] and p. 101 of Philips' Memoirs of Ebenezer Eliott [2]. —Jeremy (talk) 02:41, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
