Pat Kenny PR company

Someone keeps deleting Pat Kenny Controversy Section, Most likely his PR company. Stop deleting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.70.237.202 (talk) 13:05, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

NPOV

This article needs to be checked by someone who is more familar with Pat Kenny. I am not sure he is actually a scientologist. Also calling him a "Prick" is hardly NPOV.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Archeus (talkcontribs)

Well spotted. How did we miss this? I've reverted way back to the last unvandalised version. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 19:31, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Vandals were publically detailing it. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054929578 Might be more again soon. --Archeus 20:11, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, these facts seem pretty accurate. Another job well done I'd say.--87.192.94.163 23:01, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Risteard Cooper

I think it's worth noting that Risteard Cooper of 'Apres Match' fame parodies Pat Kenny occasionally on T.V. and frequently during live shows.

Here are mentions [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] per my refusal to edit this article any further... --➨Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 03:33, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Frequent Pat Kenny phrases on 'The Late Late Show'

"We've got a packed Late Late Show for you tonight..."

"Looking forward to that one in particular..."

"Now, my next guest is an extraordinary guy..."

(To guest) "At this stage, things couldn't get any worse...except remarkably they did."

"And remember - if you're not in, you don't win the prize."

"Join us after this, don't go away, goodbye!"

(To guest) "Thank you for coming on the programme..."

Earnings

His earnings of €899,000 were almost twice the earnings of his nearest rival Gerry Ryan. Kenny was paid €635,916 by RTE in 2003.

That is almost 40% more than his rival's earnings. Not twice as much. Twice as much would 1,3 million euros. Somebody should redo his math classes. Please fix it or prove me wrong somehow.

Gladly. Kenny earns €899,000. Ryan earns €487,492. Therefore, Kenny earns approximately 1.8441328267951063812329227966818 times as much as Ryan. Is that "somebody" you? Ian Cheese 22:13, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Probably not Vandalism but requiring citation if true

Removed the following sections given the earlier vandalism to the page; these comments could be vandalism, urban myths or sensible points (or a combination) but in any event they require citation to appear on a bio page. In particular the bald statement that critics view the show as not being a success is only a thinly disguised point of view unless critics can be shown to have held that opinion. Dooley 17:34, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Seems like an accurate assesment to me. I would challenge you disprove the views are not widely held since Pat Kenny has long been criticised as wooden and not use citations as a blocking tactic. This really should be reincluded in the main article. The acronym CA should probably be changed to continuity announcer if this isn't a direct quote from somewhere. -- Horkana 03:07, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

An early faux pas became legendary. RTÉ was broadcasting solemn music following the death of former president, Taoiseach and Easter Rising leader Éamon de Valera. Kenny as the CA at the end of a piece of Irish folk music by Planxty read out the name of the piece without checking. It turned out to be called "the ol' divil is dead".[citation needed]

Critics view Kenny's tenure at the Late Late as having been not a success[citation needed]. While the show still receives mass audiences, it has lost one third of its viewership since Byrne's departure[citation needed]. A revamp of the show (which saw its distinctive signature tune and visual style dropped for one preferred by Kenny) was seen as having lost the show much of its character. While Byrne as a presenter was someone who was at heart a theatrical figure who could bring humour and informality to the show and still handle major serious discussions well, Kenny as a longtime journalist, though able to handle "heavy issues" is seen as "wooden" in front of the cameras and "trying too much" when he moves to lighter topics. This is in contrast to his mastery of radio broadcasting on his acclaimed Today with Pat Kenny on RTÉ Radio 1.

Vandalising

Vandalising

Demiurge is regularly deleting whole chunks of Pat Kenny's entry.

This is vandalism. Improve the content is the approach, not censorship. His opinions are no more or less valid than that of any other editor. Deleting chunks on spurious grounds leaves non-sequiters in the article.

He should remember that editors are not censors and such actions disimprove wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tayana (talkcontribs) .

Demiurge writes fiction

You inserted per the history page an incorrect link to a Sunday Independent which you say was published on Thursday.

^ Sorry, Pat, but you're no Gay Byrne. And you know it — Sunday Independent, 7 September 2006

Looking at your contribs, you seem to do more reverting and deleting than improving the articles. I have seen reversions done by you that left orphaned text.

Demiurge

I believe that Demiurge is either Pat Kenny or a friend, family member or fanatic. He/she removes anything that he/she does not want present on this article. With all due respect, and I stress that this is NOT a personal attack, just an opinion from what I have observed, "Demiurge" is infatuated with Pat Kenny and protecting his image. Please abstain from vandalising this article any further. Spaingy 20:44, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Demiurge appears to be doing a decent job of keeping nonsense out of the article, judging by their past few edits here. I don't see any evidence of whitewashing or vandalism. Shimgray | talk | 21:24, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Unison

I put up the "Lawsuit" section. Just for extra citation, here's this. I put it up but I'm not registered on Unison, unfortunately. Could someone check the reliability of the source? Thanks. --Onias 19:36, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Revert

Could User:Demuirge kindly explain why the lawsuit section was reverted? Thank you very much. --Onias 22:03, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Because the length of the section is totally out of proportion to its importance. This is a petty dispute between neighbours which has spilled over into the tabloids and is irrelevant to an encyclopaedia article. You can mention the lawsuit if you want, but the allegations and counter-allegations involved should stay out. Demiurge 22:17, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Of course, I understand. --Onias 11:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

    • I have reinstated the YouTube link to the Late Late intruder incident. There was no explanation by User:Demuirge as to why it was removed.

Lampooned?

The newly titled "Trivialisation" section doesn't read like an encyclopedia. Even the title is less encyclopedic than the original. --➨Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 17:10, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Mother of all court battles over his wife's past in Bermuda

An RTÉ reference about the loss of his mother/his public court battle for anyone who wants to add it. I would myself but, when it comes to this page, it generally tends to be removed extremely quickly or replaced with something entirely unencyclopedic (i.e. "lampooned" ↑). --➨Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 20:44, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Daughers

This article states he has two daughters, but the photo on this page contains three daughers! [10] (towards bottom of page)

Of course, there are rumors...

I wouldn't have expected his daughters to have those names... perhaps they've been stolen... noticeably it does just say they are daughters... not his daughters... but every girl is a daughter... --➨Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 03:26, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

Off-screen personality

Most of this section was unreferenced and all of it was badly written and IMO defamatory. I don't much like Pat Kenny (I don't actually watch or listen to him, so I have no very strong feelings about him either way) but this section contained anonymous unreferenced quotes about what a boring ***hole he is that have no place in a tabloid newspaper, let alone in Wikipedia. This is not a place for gossip, it's an encyclopedia. Whoever put the quotes there - provide sources for them and they might deserve to go back. In the meantime, I don't really see the point of this section. I don't, to be honest, see the point of an article about Pat Kenny giving more than a few dates and a brief personal and career history. He's hardly a major historical figure. But my fellow countrymen insist on venting their opinions about him. (Sigh.) Lexo (talk) 08:30, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

I know, he seems to attract a high amount of unwanted attention. I've attempted to fix this article before but it's impossible hence why I would just leave sources on the talk page nowadays. Incidentally, the majority of the section you refer to is actually referenced, just not very well, but the original material was included in a report in the Irish Independent at the end of the section. I imagine however that it has since been vandalised to the high heavens, making it difficult to tell that which is genuine from that which is not. But it is probably a rare and therefore valuable piece which doesn't criticise him in any way. I don't really agree with you on the point about Kenny's article length – he's been around long enough and has presented so many shows that he is relatively significent enough to have more than a brief biography. There are ample reliable sources out there on this particular individual. --candlewicke 18:10, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

== Paul vs Pat Kenny ==

As somebody who remwmbers both Pat Kenny and his elder brother, Paul, at UCD in the mid-to-late 1960s, what baffles me is how Pat succeeded with RTE, and Paul didn't. Paul started disc jockeying on radio and Pat followed later. Paul had a lot more going for him; he had charm, looks, personality, fluency and wit in bucketloads, together with a an ideal broadcasting voice. Yet by the mid 70s I ran into him working for Irish Pensions Trust. To this day I cannot fathom why RTE went for Pat rather than Paul.

Perhaps it has something to do with an RTE ethos that crushed originality. One has only to think of Terry Wogan, who came across as a tailor's dummy on RTE, and then took the BBC by storm.
