IMDb plot summary[edit]

I am expanding the WP plot with the addition of the IMDb plot which I wrote under one of my pseudonyms circa 1999. I am releasing it for exclusive use here, and not elsewhere.
The IMDb convention at that time was not to spoil the ending, so the summary ends before the resolution.
The film, in my opinion, is a neorealist classic, but unfortunately it has been rather difficult to see outside of an occasional Germi retrospective.
