History[edit]

Changed the date of BDU adoption from 1985 to 1981. Actually, it was October 1981 when the first BDUs were issued out, and I came through U.S. Army Basic in March 1983. At that time, they were giving out BDU tops and pants, but plain green M1965 field jackets- as the BDU field jacket was still a shortage item. It wasn't until 1985 that ALL Vietnam era greens were gone, and replaced by BDUs. In 83 and 84, you could mix some things- but not tops and bottoms. That had to be either one way or the other. Other countries[edit]

As the lead paragraph states that this cap is "worn by the military personnel of some countries in the field...", I've split off the History section with a Level 3 heading for each country's military, presently the USA and Israel. The banner of "expand with translation" is for content and photo illustrations. -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:17, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
