Pronunciation?[edit]

This always bugged me. I've heard people pronounce his last name as "motion" or as "MO-tee-un". Does anyone know what the definitive pronunciation is and, if so, can we include it in the article?

The original and correct pronunciation (Armenian) was something like "MO-tee-un," but Paul went with "moshun" earlier in his career. So that is the definitive pronunciation.

In the 2022 biography "Bill Frisell, Beautiful Dreamer: The Guitarist Who Changed the Sound of American Music" there is a lot of detail of the collaboration between Motian and Frisell. The book clears up the issue in chapter 7. The traditional pronunciation and the one used by the family is "MO-tee-un". However Mr Motian himself liked to simplify it to "moshun". The book also says that he accepted both versions and didn't really care very much either way, so really, both are correct.~~

External links[edit]

I asked myself, if all the external links are ok, especially the ones, that are linked to the labels? Isn't it only a step away from a commercial amazon link, since you can purchase the linked item on the labels web site? One may think to support the smaller labels or make it easy for the reader to find them on the web. But I don't think, that it should be a task for wikipedia. I'ld appreciate to read your opinion - thank you--MenkinAlRire (talk) 00:37, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Having consulted with a number of other experienced editors, I would suggest that the large number of external links recently added are in breach of WP:NOTCATALOG and should therefore be removed. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:36, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Motian discography[edit]

Support split - Discography section takes up more than half of the page, and should be split to a new article entitled Paul Motian discography. --Jax 0677 (talk) 20:48, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
