Good article work

This article looks very detailed, and it's a shame it didn't pass the GA assessment. Here's the reasons it failed. It just needs the images reduced and checked and some good sources. Let's do it! SilkTork *YES! 15:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Failed "good article" nomination

This article failed good article nomination. This is how the article, as of March 4, 2007, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: Pass This article has lots of very good content.
2. Factually accurate?: Fail This article has sections without any citations, please try to put at least one citation per section.
3. Broad in coverage?: Pass Seems to cover every aspect throughout time.
4. Neutral point of view?: Pass Though it could use information about the company's competition.
5. Article stability? Pass
6. Images?: Fail This article has an excess of images, many of which are in the gallery. Please only use important pictures in articles.

When these issues are addressed, the article can be resubmitted for consideration, if you feel that this review was in error feel free to take it to a GA review. Thanks for your work so far. --Tarret 23:18, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Silk, I think some of the pictures that were in the text should be re-added, just to help convey the text and break things up a little. Yes, the gallery did need to go since it had way to many pics. All of the pictures have been released for public use. Any one that I didn't take myself was donated to Wikipedia/Wiki Commons/The World by Silver Ventures. They're proud of the history of the company and are more than willing to supply pics and information any time they can. As for the overall work on the article, I should be getting back to things soon. Life just got too hectic there for awhile and unfortunately my time on this article was one of the things that had to give. Oh, and thanks for your help around here. --Brownings (talk) 16:33, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

References

I pulled the links out from the External links section that are really References. I'll work over the next few days to get them added in one-by-one where they belong. Until then, I'll dump them here just to keep tabs on progress. --Brownings (talk) 22:28, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Alright, most of these references have been used in the article at least once if not multiple times. I've removed the strikeout, and I'll leave them all here since I'll probably use a few of them again as I do the citation in other sections. The reference for the SA Current article titled "Strange Brew" is very broken. I can't find the article online anywhere, even in SA Current's archives. I contacted the writer of the article and she informed me that the digital version was lost during a database crash at their office several months ago. She did offer though to provide me with a hardcopy version. So, you'll see that reference change to a newspaper cite as soon as I swing by their office to pick up the article. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about a reference that was no longer available online, but in this case I want to reread that article to verify the information I pulled out of it and used in the article's section called "Power Struggle" is correct. --Brownings (talk) 11:55, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
I picked up a hard copy of the SA Current article used for the section Power Struggle. After re-reading it a few times my initial summary was correct. I'll work on that section next to get the text tightened up and get the bad on-line reference swapped out for the hard copy reference. --Brownings (talk) 20:02, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Picture licenses

Eventually almost all images associated with this article will be hosted over on Wiki Commons as CC (free for all to use). The only images that won't make the move are the two logos for Pearl Brewery (infobox) and the Goetz Brewing Company (article body). If I ever find a good Goetz photo, that logo will be removed as well. --Brownings (talk) 02:45, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Tagging for all the current photos in use has been fixed. All photos, other than the two logos, are now on Wiki Commons and free to the public. As I add additional/new photos into the article, they'll be on Commons before they are loaded here. --Brownings (talk) 23:08, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
The transition of pictures to Wiki Commons is going well. Other than a couple of photos, I've got most that will be used in the article migrated over. I added a new panoramic photo to the brewery section, but after looking at it a little it's a crappy picture. My camera didn't stitch the pictures together that well, so you can easily see the transitions between the photos. I'll leave it up for now and try to get a replacement soon. --Brownings (talk) 11:48, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, I've got the current brewery panoramic shot changed out. It's from a different spot, so it looks a little strange. However, the new perspective is growing on me the more I see it. I tried taking the photo from my normal place, but the setting sun was brutal. Also, I'm still working on some of the photos for Wiki Commons. I'm not 100% it'll work though, I'm having some tagging issues even there. Even though the photos I'm uploading are my own work (I took photos of photos then cleaned them up), they're still in a grey area. We'll see how it pans out though. --Brownings (talk) 02:53, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Missing sections

There are several missing sections that I want to add once the cleanup is complete and time allows me.

  • The murder of Otto Koehler (fills in the blank from 1900s up to Prohibition time, and yes the story is juicy)
  • Southdown (what goes so wrong after Otto A dies that the brewery is sold off)
  • General Brewing (in comes the dreaded Paul Kalmanovitz)
  • Pabst (sets up the current structure of General Brewing successor and what leads us to the Pearl Brewery's closure)

I'm also mulling over a section for Texas Pride. Something in me says that a beer that was king of the hill at the brewery before, and even a little after, Pearl arrived needs more than just a mention. The recent renovations of the brewery's smokestack and the discovery that PRIDE is written on one side just puts a nagging feeling in my belly. --Brownings (talk) 00:57, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Update

Sorry for the recent lull, after a good barrage of updates fixes. I've been distracted by researching stuff on the Texas Transportation Company (TXTC). I had forgot how bad off I'd left that page, so I figured I'd do a little Google-fu to dig up some more information. I've got a good chuck now, which should make for a nice update to that page. TXTC was small and didn't generate a lot of interest or publication, so the article will always be modestly small. I am working on some photos for the Goetz section though, so stay tuned for those. They'll make a nice replacement for the beer label, which is the current photo that accompanies the text. --Brownings (talk) 03:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Well, things finally petered out with TXTC. I made some additional small discoveries that will enhance its Wiki article, but nothing major enough that I want to spend more time away from Pearl to update it. I'll add the info over there and clean things up, eventually. Tonight I went through a couple of the early sections and added their references in. Wow, I really wish I had done that while writing all that text. Things would have been so much easier since I wouldn't have to basically go back and re-research the references all over again. While writing the sections I though references would be an easy add down the road. Boy, was I wrong! I also updated some of the current brewery information with info on the new Full Goods building. Construction is starting to wrap up and tenants are already moving in. It's a decent addition for now, but I want to expand on it just slightly when all the Full Goods tenants get in place. Well, that's all for now. More to come soon. --Brownings (talk) 04:13, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

CE Group, Full Goods, External links (Nov 21, 2008)

I redid a few edits by a recent new Wiki member on the Brewery section. The new member was looking to add info on the CE Group to the article. While the addition caused a few problems with formatting and flow, overall I'm thankful for the help. Now that the Full Good building is opening up, the section/paragraph is in need of a rework. I'm going to add in businesses as they move into the Full Goods building, at least two are there already. Overall the mentions will name the company plus what they do, kind of a scaled down version of what's presently in place for Texas Farm to Table and Synergy. As companies are added, the information has to be informative in nature. Expanding too far on an individual company and using too many flowery or descriptive words could easily be viewed by Wiki Admins as an attempt to use Wikipedia as a marketing medium. No worried though, I'll get Full Goods up to par ASAP, then it'll be back to adding in references into the older sections. As for the External links section, I've broken it up into two areas. One is the overall Pearl related sites that have quite a bit of info about Pearl or are historically connected to the company or brewery. The other section is for tenants of the brewery. I think it's important to list the tenants, but their links won't have as much historical/trivia/facts about the facility or company as the main links do, thus why they're split off. To provide at least some method to my madness, the main links are listed in an order corresponding to the amount of information they have. The tenant links on the other hand are just listed in alphabetical order. --Brownings (talk) 02:19, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I've updated the brewery section to include a little more current info on Full Goods. The revamp lists the present and future tenants, plus fixes the tense used for the solar project. I hope to add this weekend some info on the smoke stack's restoration as well as the plans that were announced to build CIA a new building. --Brownings (talk) 19:57, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
