Redirect[edit]

I made a bold edit to redirect this article to Cantaloupe. I was watching an episode of Sanford & Son (S2, E3) and Aunt Ethel (she pre-dates Aunt Esther) compared the size of her gallbladder to a Persian Melon. I looked up Persian Melon and the original Wiki stub suggested the fruit was Cucumis melo, which is the same binomial nomenclature as the Cantaloupe. I'm no botanist, so if I made any unfortunate assumptions, they were made in good faith, and I hope my fellow Wikipedians will forgive me. :D Cyphoidbomb (talk) 08:26, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's not so simple as going with the scientific name, but your redirect makes some sense. Not all Cucumis melo are cantaloupes (most melon varieties come from this species). "True cantaloupes" are a variety that doesn't show up outside of continental Europe, but various other orange flesh varieties of Cucumis melo are often referred to as cantaloupes, as the cantaloupe article mentions. Persian melons are orange fleshed, so it seems reasonable to merge with the current cantaloupe article which takes a broad definition of the term. Plantdrew (talk) 22:02, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
