Copyright[edit]

The definition of research interests and list of awards are copied from Peter Hall's home page which is surely in the public domain. Baddstat 07:05, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Presumably the copyright belongs to Peter Hall. And if you are Peter Hall, then you probably shouldn't be creating a page on Wikipedia about yourself. --RichardVeryard 11:42, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It says "All rights reserved © 1999" that's not public domain. --W.marsh 13:31, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am not Peter Hall; he is extremely modest. I am not a close colleague of Peter Hall, not even a friend. I am just a researcher who thinks that there should be a Wikipedia entry for such an important and prolific researcher (world's second most highly cited statistician, Fellow of the Royal Society, President of the Australian Mathematical Society, etc.) I don't know how I am going to find text describing Peter Hall's research interests that is (a) correct and (b) not written by Peter Hall himself. I have already spent enough time on this, doing what I thought was a service to the community. I give up - I will not make any further modifications of this page. Baddstat 04:03, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To me it seems very likely that the text stems from Peter Hall's original homepage at ANU, which does not seem to be available anymore. It is questionable that CIRS can claim a copyright on their page. Nevertheless, I replaced the table by a summary and a link, so hopefully all is ok now. Please somebody have a check that my choice of awards and honors is representative! Slartibarti 05:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that COPSS presidents' award shall also be included. This award is sometime considered as the Nobel Prize of mathematical statistics. (Fields Medal is only for pure mathematicians...) 220.139.237.167 (talk) 15:14, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
