Let Mr. Hook make this clear[edit]

Some anti-Semitic websites, claim that Peter is Jewish... No! He is NOT Jewish! From His mouth and to make a correct reference He is Protestant... From his book The Hacienda: How Not To Run A Club... To quote: " Rob - like virtually everyone associated with Factory - was raised Catholic (Bernard and I were the only two Protestants on the label, which became the source of some amusement). So there you anti-Semitic's!!!

Playing Style[edit]

In this video it looks like he is picking his guitar (as opposed to fingering it, like most bassists.) Does he usually use a pick?--DCo1 08:47, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What basses does he use?[edit]

I've heard what he used in Joy Division (Rickenbacker copy, Yamaha BB1200, Shergold six-string), but I've seen other basses, for example, something that resembles a Gibson ES-335. Could someone give a detailed description of his basses? I like Joy Division and New Order and everything, but I'm not that big a fan of them. - Ndrly 12:07, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revenge[edit]

In the lead it says he recorded one album with Revenge, in "other works" it says two. What's correct? 83.248.0.48 (talk) 21:23, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I had the first album. As far as I know it was the only one. I'd also like to point out that the opening paragraph is ambiguous as written. It could be taken to suggest that he was the vocalist for Revenge, which he was not. sugarfish (talk) 01:52, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • One True Passion was Revenge's only studio album, but there was an EP (Gun World Porn) and a live album too. Andrew Lenahan - Starblind 13:49, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Lancashire/Greater Manchester[edit]

Current usage for the birthplaces of people is that we use the county as it was defined at the time of their birth. Thus Salford, Lancashire should be used here. Assuming that adding a county is helpful, of course. Mr Stephen (talk) 16:30, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yorkshire Ripper Case[edit]

@David Gerard: I wasn't questioning if the incident actually occurred, just if the mention is really appropriate in a BLP. Admittedly, I don't have access to a copy of his autobio to see how it is discussed there (Google Books isn't popping up the page in response to any of the obvious search terms like Ripper, arrest, Yorkshire, or Sutcliffe). It's just that the way it's written now could read to someone who didn't click on the references as if Hook and Morris were really 'in the frame' of the investigation for some particular reason, while the impression I get from other sources on the topic is basically that the police were essentially clueless at the time and just throwing out a dragnet that pulled up their license plates. We don't want to give the implication that Hook or Morris where 'real' suspects unless that was actually the case. For instance, was Morris actually arrested as a suspect in the murder, or for some other reason after being picked up?

From a book review on examiner.com (can't link because blacklisted)

Police question the lads about a rash of killings in Leeds. Joy Division had no affiliation with the Yorkshire Ripper, of course, but weren’t above shoehorning news their interrogation into its publicity campaigns: “We were looking promotion in the face.”

Meh.

Also, the "Complete Music Update" source is kinda cruddy. It's really just a complete reposting of this.. [1] without any additional information. It would probably be better to cite that. The same source is also used in Stephen Morris in the same context, and should be IMO be changed there also. Reventtalk 19:31, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking it's probably better in the Joy Division article than the two musicians biographies, it just feels a bit uncomfortable sitting in the Personal Life section of Peter Hook. Nick (talk) 20:05, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah ... it's a pretty minor thing really, and I see Revent's point - they weren't particularly suspects, the police were pretty much investigating anyone driving around the north of England with a van. Hook writes of letting the police into his house and showing them his scrapbook to prove they were a punk band. I suppose it's a pretty minor pub anecdote, really - David Gerard (talk) 10:18, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
