Re: Career Affiliations edit[edit]

I have removed a parenthetical comment "(Harvard having shed its original Boston Unitarian roots centuries before)" that was placed as a modifier in the sentence about "Harvard's official interfaith chaplains". It is simply false.

Harvard was founded in 1636...as a Puritan/Congregationalist seminary. There were NO Unitarian congregations in Massachusetts until 1782... And it wasn't until the early 1800s that Unitarianism began it's heyday... Harvard, University, Church and Divinity School, indeed has a Unitarian era... BUT it's not "original" nor "roots" nor "centuries before"...

I know this as a minister of one of the six congregations that founded Harvard; but you can see it all yourself if you read the History of Harvard and the Unitarianism articles here in Wikipedia. The author of this mis-statement may think that the fact that Harvard University's Memorial Chapel has many, interfaith chaplains needs to be explained... But the sentence I removed does NOT correctly explain that fact.

I also think it is incorrect to suggest that Rev. Gomes was merely one of many chaplains: He is "The" Pusey Minister at Harvard's Memorial Church... That is the top, senior ministerial position in the church. The Chaplains program is in addition and beyond that...Harvard Chaplains are often head clergy of their own churches elsewhere.

There are little pieces of misinformation here... Needs to be cleaned up.

Plummer Chair would need clarification if "Pusey Minister" does, no?
