Fair use rationale for Image:PSPSeal.gif

Image:PSPSeal.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Problems with this article

This page has a lot of problems. First, it violates the Wikipedia Conflict of interest policy, which means "contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships." One editor self-identifies as part of Phi Sigma Pi and in this Talk section indicates that this article is a collaborative project of fraternity members. It certainly reads like a puff piece written by the organization itself, and even ends with this very non-encyclopedic information: "The National Staff is available during normal business hours, M-F from 8-4:30 PM EST."

Virtually all of the citations are from the organization's own websites and publications. That means it's just a reflection of what the organization says about itself. This is a major problem, since there is not a lot of other easily findable information about Phi Sigma Pi. When people on discussion boards ask if this organization is legitimate, I've seen others say, "Well, they have a Wikipedia page, so they must be." But the Wikipedia page only tells you what the organization wants people to know about them. Some individuals have reported information that differs from what is stated in this article--for instance, some people with 2.0 GPA's report getting invitations to join an organization that bills itself as an honor fraternity.

Unfortunately, the only way to really transform this article would be to have a few journalists do some investigations. In the meantime, though, maybe some work could be done to make this article not so self-serving.
