More work needed[edit]

Due to COVID-19 closings, I could not resolve the discrepancy between the Virginia election database and Orebaugh's biography on the Bridgewater College website, other than as I wrote in the text. The usually-reliable election database indicates both Orebaugh and Ritchie were elected in a special election in 1982, but the ongoing House of Delegates biography project (an update to the 1978 volume edited by Cynthia Miller Leonard that I've often cited in other legislative bios) has no bio of Ritchie. I don't offhand remember the exact federal district court decision which mandated single-member districts in the early 1980s. Because local history libraries are closed as a precaution to limit the pandemic's spread, I cannot consult the hard copy red volume describing legislators in the decade after Leonard's volume, which would indicate the district number in 1981, before the census redistricting which created the 27th district that Orebaugh represented (and Ritchie may or may not have represented).Jweaver28 (talk) 12:09, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
