Website update

I thought I'd alert people to this as it seems relevant to the article and there's been a lot of discussion over how to refer to the author. The pictures for sad children website has recently updated, with a page referring to the name in the New Yorker article mentioned above as "my dead name". The only reference to a different name I can see on the new website is an email address listed on this page, but I don't know whether we can say for sure that that's the author's email or their actual name. If we can take the new website as a source it seems we should at least not refer to the author as "John Campbell". 2A02:C7D:1B8:5B00:BCD5:2217:C883:20FB (talk) 14:01, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

It is impossible to know if this is written by Campbell themselves. Interestingly, we don't use this New Yorker interview as a source as all. I do not know how publications like Comics Alliance (2010) got the name "John"; I was assuming that Campbell had published this name on their website back in the day as well (Campbell did use this name for their Kickstarter at least). Regardless, John Campbell is both the common name of the subject, and literally the only name we have for the subject. There is no way to omit it entirely, even if we could confirm the identity of the subject. ~Mable (chat) 16:47, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

The website has been updated again, now with the messages "Paypal has disabled our account because they don't like our name! Sent them documents, haven't heard back." and (in reference to aforementioned Paypal troubles) "Step 17,758 in the universe's Trans Woman Hazing Process has begun!". It's safe to say that the author identifies as a woman and now goes by the name "Janet Harbinger". — Kawnhr (talk) 02:16, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

@Kawnhr: Right now that is original research. Per WP:COMMONNAME and verifiable sourcing, for now we must continue to refer to the individual as "John Campbell". If there are additional third party sources though, please feel free to share and perhaps we can form a consensus on a change. -- Dane talk 02:24, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
We cannot confirm that the domain name "picturesforsadchildren.com" is currently owned or managed by the subject of this article. Therefore, we cannot consider the content of this web page as reliable to any degree. ~Mable (chat) 08:33, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
Even if this is the case, the website at the url being updated is still significant, isn't it? 73.223.209.150 (talk) 17:50, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
73.223.209.150 restored Harbinger as the writer, etc. This needs to wp:cite a wp:RS before it is added. Jim1138 (talk) 17:56, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
