Metastasio's apartment in Vienna[edit]

Metastasio did not move in with his friend Nicolo Martines, who in 1730 did not live in the 'Michaelerhaus' yet. It was the other way around: Martines - who compared to the famous poet was a nobody - moved into Metastasio's apartment a few years after the poet had come to Vienna.--Suessmayr (talk) 17:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pietro Metastasio[edit]

Apparently, that's how his name appears in most publications from the 18th and 19th centuries. This libretto from 1752 shows it clearly. There are many more on IMSLP. The Grove Dictionary's entry is also at "Metastasio, Pietro". Based on this, I'm moving the title back to Pietro Metastasio. —capmo (talk) 03:33, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Arcadian Academy[edit]

Nothing is said about Metastasio's own membership in the Arcadian Academy, of which his patron Gravina was a founder. Metastasio was considered a somewhat controversial personality in the Arcadian Academy, because of his open admiration for Tasso and Marino, the latter especially. Arcadia had been founded with a view to moving Italian poetry away from the elaborate 17th century style for which Marino furnished the principle example and inspiration, Marino's style being a development from Tasso's. Metastasio was broad minded enough to see the virtue in the poetry of Arcadia's enemies, so to speak. I couldn't myself see a way to insert this into the article without disrupting the flow.
