False info on article page[edit]

The article originally had the line It is one of only two extinct volcanoes located within the boundaries of a city. This is absolute rubbish. There are several cities here in New Zealand with extinct volcanoes within city boundaries, quite a number in Japan, many in Indonesia... even two in Scotland. Did it mean to say one of only two within Oregon, perhaps? Grutness...wha? 11:20, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's still wrong, because just within Portland are Mt. Tabor, Powell Butte, and Rocky Butte, all of which are extinct volcanoes. Lnthomp 19:51, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions[edit]

I've changed the text to say "Bend is one of only two mainland U.S. cities with extinct volcanoes located within their boundaries", which is closer to the truth.

Also, the infobox said "Range: Maury Mountains". Not true, these mountains are over 40 miles to the east and have nothing to do with Pilot Butte, which is a part of the eastern arc of Cascade volcanoes that includes Newberry Volcano just to the south. So Pilot Butte is part of the Cascade Range, despite being located 25 miles east of the Cascade Crest.

Thanks SS for taking the initiative on that. The "only 2 cities" thing is something I hear repeated all over the place (on and off WP), but I've never seen a citation. I think something even more radical might be in order, because it looks like the Boring Lava Field overlaps several cities, and given the number of American and other cities in the "ring of fire", it seems unlikely that no others exist. -Pete 09:53, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
