reference adding and deleting[edit]

Have the same editors been edit warring, for years now? I don't follow all that's going on here, but it looks like there was a valid reference added to the article by one editor which has been deleted by another editor. That is for the NRHP documents for the site. It was added at least once as:^[1]

That may link to the wrong document for this site though, i am not sure.

For those not familiar with the NYS NRHP imaging system which uses some Java-based reader, the appearance may be a bit odd. In Firefox it is not easy to read; you have a wide but just one-inch tall window in which to scroll down through the document. It works a lot better in MSIE. That's the NYS docs system for you, no way around its weird appearance in Firefox. A more complete reference, linking to the correct text and photo documents for this site, would be:^[1]

I imagine that the good people of New Rochelle might appreciate that help, except that the link points to a document about a completely different building. Similarly, an earlier edit to this article gave a National Register listing date that contradicted the NRIS data in the infobox. --Orlady (talk) 14:56, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it looks like there was a typo in the document number in the link originally given, and/or the editor expected it would be deleted anyhow so getting it right wasn't important, or something like that. What's disputed, i guess, is whether the following text, which was added then deleted, makes a contribution:

Pioneer Building is a late nineteenth century commerical building at located at 14 Lawton Street in the Downtown business district of New Rochelle, New York. It exhibits high quality materials, workmanship and Italianate inspired decoration. The locally important building played an important role in New Rochelle's turn-of-the-century development.
The building was added to the Westchester County Inventory of Historic Plaaces on January 5, 1988, the New York State Register of Historic Places on November 23, 1983, and to the National Register of Historic Places on ~~December 29, 1983~~ February 8, 1984.^[1]
History The structure was built in 1892 by Henry Sweet, the editor and publisher of New Rochelle's first newspaper "The Pioneer". The weekly newspaper was published in the building until 1920 when it was forced to close due to increasing competition. From that point onward, the building held a variety of tenants but generally declined. In the 1970's, much of the block was leveled to make way for the New Rochelle Public Library. The Pioneer building was spared, and then was purchased and extensively restored by a local resident as the headquarters of her food-service business. (ref to NRHP nom form)

I made a correction of one date (by strikeout and italics) to fix an apparent typo. Is the text supported by the NRHP nomination document? Actually looking at the NRHP document, it is not the source for the text given, so a different source is needed if that text is to be used. The NRHP document mentions a founder named Dyott of the "The Pioneer" and mentions a builder, but does not mention editor Henry Sweet. Possibly both the founder and the editor existed and were involved with the building in 1892, but the text as written is not sourced from the NRHP document that I rounded up, anyhow. --doncram (talk) 20:40, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
