The 4th single[edit]

The fourth single will probably be I want it All, acording to the series 1-3-5-7--Daniel bg 15:36, 27 December 2005 (UTC) Actually more likely to be 'John the Revelator'[reply]

Does somebody here know anythin' about these two quys, Christian Eigner and Andrew Phillpott, who are credited in the tracks where Gahan is also credited? If does, I would personally like to see very brief biographies about them...

Five Singles[edit]

QUOTE: Playing the Angel is the first DM album to have five UK singles (though not the first to have four single releases).

A Double-A side is not really a way of releasing two singles at once. It is one single with two A-sides - there is only one catalog number. I think perhaps a more accurate phrasing would be "the most songs released for promotion in the UK." But I thought that sounded clunky so I didn't bother. In any case, Lilian was treated like a B-side - no airplay, no video, never played in concert. I don't know why they bothered with the whe whole double-promotion thing. Songwriting despute[edit]

According to Fletcher's article, Fletcher helped build a compromise that settled a "serious dispute" between Gahan and Gore over songwriting duties for Playing the Angel, and yet it has no reference and I haven't been able to find anything to back this statement up. I would imagine that there was some issue with this, and I'd like to learn more details about this with appropriate references. Darwin's Bulldog (talk) 20:44, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sales figure[edit]

While I accept that the 1.6 million figure is probably missing quite a bit, it is the only sourced figure we have. If anyone wants to add a higher figure, please provide a reliable source. --Muhandes (talk) 16:00, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that it is the only properly sourced figure this far, the fact remains that it is just the number from year 2006. Playing The Angel was released in October 2005 and got a very good start, including the first platinum certification in Germany [1], which doesn't show in the current figure. With that in mind and since there's no better source available until EMI decides to open up about PTA album sales in detail, I suggest rephrasing the sentence to show that the number is from 2006. I find the current wording, "The album has sold 1.6 million copies worldwide." too inaccurate. --Sk4170 (talk) 16:43, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to mention that the numbers are, in fact, not just from 2006 but total until April 2007. This is very apparent with X&Y which was the best selling album in the world in 2005, selling 8.3m in 2005 (see here), and the other 1.6 in 2006. I agree it does not include sales after April 2007. Was that your concern? I can reword it to say this is up to April 2007. --Muhandes (talk) 17:45, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did some more research and the figure might be excluding US/Canada sales, since Depeche Mode North America record label is Sire, not EMI (Mute). I qualified the text in the article even more. Does this make more sense? --Muhandes (talk) 18:00, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My major concern was that the figure was missing the major sales peak from the opening weeks in October 2005, but if it really is the sales total from October 2005 to April 2007 (?) then if it is said so in the text, I'm ok with it. I'm not sure about the role of EMI group in the North American market, can't comment on that. I wish Mr. Cashmere had provided more accurate information behind the sales figures in his article ;). --Sk4170 (talk) 18:39, 21 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Secret Single[edit]

Did you know that "The Darkest Star" is actually a very limited release after "Suffer Well"? Check track listing of "Suffer Well" article, and one of them was two remixes of "The Darkest Star" only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.116.140.74 (talk) 23:12, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
