"Dipped"[edit]

I have never heard of this terminology. Inserted seems to be standard and is also likely to be intuitively understood by readers. Should this be changed? User1042💬✒️ 21:03, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dipped is largely still a "standard" term, though I support your use of "inserted" as more useful for the layperson. To people in the industry, when you slide your magstripe through a slot it's "swiping," when you insert the chip into the slot it's "dipping," and when you hold the card over the NFC spot it's "tapping." But that's not helpful to the average person without further explanation. I say, go for the edit. DoubleRelevance (talk) 04:37, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
