Hello, please, let me to suggest a new theory about the origin of "polaco" name refered to catalans. You also can find it in the catalan wiki (https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polaco#Etimologia):

A recent theory is the one raised in the book "Political Racism and Supremacism in Contemporary Spain" [8], in which in the context of racial regeneration in Spain, noted in this volume, it indicates that the number of Polish Jews who the Nazis called pollaken instead of polnischer) were about the same number as the census of Catalans, citizens who in Spain were compared to the Jews, and it was even claimed that they were Jewish and / or had Semitic racial traces.
