untitled section[edit]

Hello, I am Deno (Lord because Deno is taken) and I live in Port Wakefield. I have added a little bit but would like to know what others would like to see added. I hope to be taking some Digital Photos of the area soon.

Hi Deno, instead of having a heading of 'today', break it up into economy (ie all the travellers, trucks passing through etc), community (demographics from ABS site), and maybe geography (where its situated, surrounding land ie farms, mangroves, beaches, the gulf).

An expansion of history would be nice too, if you can get any free info from tourist booths around town. The Catcher 03:56, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Visit by Matthew Flinders[edit]

The following has been removed from the article because it is not a correct statement - "Port Wakefield was first visited by Matthew Flinders in 1802, while he was travelling to the Flinders Ranges and ". Flinders' journal describes a visit on 30 March 1802 to the north end of Gulf St Vincent where the shore was reached by row boat from his ship which was shoaled in shallow water. Flinders and his party eventually reached Hummock Mount (about 8 miles (13 km)^* to the north of the head of the gulf) where observations were made regarding the survey of the coastline including that of Spencer Gulf. There is no mention of a visit to the site of Port Wakefield nor was Flinders going to the Flinders Ranges as the expedition had previously visited parts of that mountain range on 10 March 1802 (party lead by the naturalist Brown). The relevant sections in the following online version of Flinders' journal are the section entitled "TUESDAY 30 MARCH 1802" in Chapter VIII and the section entitled "WEDNESDAY 10 MARCH 1802" in Chapter VII - http://www.gutenberg.org/files/12929/12929-h/12929-h.htm#chapter1-8.
