Ranking

I want to know the ranking given to this university. Response to "I want to know the ranking given to this university.": None of the ratings PSU gets are very good. They're usually rather silly, actually. The school of engineering isn't even on the top 100 list, etc, etc.

In actuallity PSU is kind of like a community college. Whether you think that's bad is another judgement. But its academics aren't really respected in academia.

By whom? In what catagory/topics/attributes?

GED

Shouldnt something be said about the General education program at PSU? The inquirys and clusters??? i dont have time or very good knowledge on the subject but it is different and probably should be noted

Please note that there is a lot of criticism of the General Edumication program at PSU. Note the "inquirys" from the previous person.

COTW

• Lincoln Hall (Portland State University) (formerly the HS)
• Simon Benson House (NRHP) and likely easy DYK with its move
• Portland State University College of Urban and Public Affairs (includes the Hatfield School of Government and I believe is nationally recognized)
• Branford Price Millar Library done
• History of Portland State University
• South Park Blocks (not owned by the school, but a major campus feature)

Non-duplication of programs citation issue

The citation can be found in The College That Would Not Die: The First Fifty Years of Portland State University, 1946-1996, Gordon B. Clean up

I have tagged this since there are a lot of problems now with the article. First, there needs to be consistent and full citations, not just inline ELs here and there or sometimes footnotes. Second, there are inline external links, which need to be removed or converted to references. Third, the history is really focused on the last 5 years, and the PR job on the sustainability grant needs to be trimmed (also suggest moving/integrating the "Awards" and "College Bowl" sections into the history section). Fourth, the WP:LEAD should be expanded some and split into multiple paragraphs. Fifth, newspapers needs italics and I think some of the red links are unlikely to go blue. January 2012 cleanup

My name is Tracy Weber and I have recently been doing some edits to the PSU website. I work for PSU in Marketing and Communications and I am the one charged with updating and keeping our PSU wiki site current and correct.

I removed a paragraph from the History section because it was not something our office deemed necessary. I have also revised some of the stats on enrollment. Hi Tracy. Since you are part of PSU, please be aware of Wikipedia's policy about having a conflict of interest. Also note that PSU doesn't own this page. One example of that is your comment that "it was not something our office deemed necessary", which shows clear page ownership. It doesn't matter what PSU thinks about the page on Wikipedia, actually.

I might be misreading, but "I'll be saving the page and making sure it doesn't change" is a threat to enforce your point of view to the page. That's clearly an attempt towards page ownership and enforcing your (and PSU's point of view). Please don't go down this route.

There are quite a few people around here that would be happy to help you collaborate on this. There are some fantastically productive avenues to go down. There was no information about Vanport and moving into Lincoln until it was added a few years ago. There's still not a single word about when the park blocks were closed to traffic or the big riot/protest/strike of 1970, yet a sustainability grant from 5 years ago gets a long paragraph. That's undue coverage, and I'm afraid your edits aren't helping with a historic, encyclopedic context. tedder (talk) 01:20, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

I completely agree with Tedder and have watched your edits with some concern. Perhaps you could outline what sorts of changes you will be doing (here, on this talk page) before actually commencing with them. You should spend a few hours reading all the pages linked from the Five Pillars of Wikipedia to thoroughly understand our requirement for neutral, verifiable, reliably-sourced and cited content and perhaps avoid spending time on work which has to be undone. —EncMstr (talk) 03:02, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Rahmet Shoureshi has resigned

Hello Wikipedians!

My name is Jessica. I read in the Oregonian that Rahmet Shoureshi has resigned after reports of staff mistreatment and other issues. I tried to make a factual edit, but I might not have the know-how. The current acting president is Stephen Percy. The Board of Trustees has not yet selected an interim president. Paid contents

The article contains promotional puffery and has a promotional tone. There are several undisclosed editing from the school's public relations department and plenty of guide-like contents, some without sources. The tag places the article into category of articles tagged, which gives other editors to look through. That's a major reason to leave it in. Here's an example of yet to be removed questionable contents The cinema is open to the public and screens films weekly, with students receiving free admission, and many of the university's film studies courses are held in the screening rooms.. This is NOT in encyclopedic tone, and this is not even cited. Tracy Weber indicated there are others that edited, and when you look in edit patterns, public relations contents management editing becomes apparent. I don't understand why you feel the need to drive by, quickly quash the tag without putting it on the table for articles tagged with tags category for others to have a chance to look. The Carnegie Foundation ranked PSU as a Top School in Curricular Engagement, Outreach, and Partnerships, and it is ranked as the ninth Best Neighbor Universities. here's another quote I find it promotional. Rather than remove all of it on my own, I believe having additional eyes would help maintain neutrality. There's dramatically more media coverage on Rahmat Shoureshi matters than things like the examples above, yet there's a lot more of "guide for prospective students" type materials and this is a complete POV issue, because it doesn't reflect the magnitude of coverage off wiki.
