Flag[edit]

The flag of Potchefstroom which I posted here was used during the Voortrekker era & I am not sure if it is used as the current flag of the modern town.

Can be amend easily by adapting the caption. Done. Michel Doortmont (talk) 00:45, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism[edit]

The article are almost the same as in http://www.potchefstroom.co.za/about_potch/about.html 41.242.33.46 17:53, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple problems[edit]

This article seems to be copied, at least in part from an internet source (see above), is not referenced in any way, and therefore contains statements that are not verifiable and possibly contentious / not-NPOV (e.g. on the undercount of white South Africans in the 2001 Census and the renaming of the town to Tlokwe). Other sections read like a Municipal Guide or Tourist Information brochure. The topic needs to be addressed, but not in the way it is done now. Complete rewrite requested, will try to do my bit. Do NOT propose to delete, however. Michel Doortmont (talk) 00:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed the hyperbole and bigging-up stuff. Agree it needs a good going-through still but at least the gush has been excised. Plutonium27 (talk) 16:27, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to split article[edit]

When the problems stated above are addressed, it may be advisable to split the article as well, with one article for the town and one for the historic Voortrekker state of Potchefstroom(-Winburg). Michel Doortmont (talk) 00:49, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Capital of the ZAR[edit]

From when to when was Potchefstroom actually the capital of the ZAR? Also, on the name, may i suggest the Dutch first naam Sjef (instead of chef) also a consideration for the meaning of the middle part of the name. Potjestroom is a possible hint (Sjef Potgieter ring a bell ?) to this like of thinking: Potgieters stroom could be longer version of this: the stream of PotgieterFlagman (talk) 12:26, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FIFA 2010[edit]

Not quite sure if this can fall under an encyclopedia entry, but Potchefstroom, in specific the NWU hosted the Spanish team (winning team) during the FIFA soccer world cup of 2010. Chris Swart (talk) 09:23, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Politics[edit]

Okay I hate to talk about politics but I've added a small section about the motions of no-confidence's that's flying around. I feel it is relevant as the mayor changes everytime one of those are passed. Please read it to ensure I do not sound biased.I tried not to bring my feelings into play
