- A brief note, as I can't copy-and-paste or do major edits from an iPhone -

This article could deleted and the title can be redirected to Conshelf as the names Conshelf and Precontinent were used interchangeably by Cousteau.

Links can be made to the article Underwater habitat, which describes Conshelf I, II and III.

References can be found on the Cousteau.org website under 'Technology' but the material is very thin: I do not believe that there are any images on the web of these habitats in use in the early 1960's. Several diving sites have media depicting the current state of the remaining structures.

Proposed merge with Continental Shelf Station Two[edit]

"Precontinent" and "Continental Shelf Station" (Conshelf) are two names for the same project. Rogermx (talk) 23:56, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you cite a reliable source? If so, it would make sense to merge and redirect to the Conshelf article as that is the better known name. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 06:52, 2 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have not found a reference specifically stating that the two are the same, but available evidence indicates that this is almost certainly the case. · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 09:10, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The French page, which presumably was the primary name, is Précontinent II; that page also indicates that the project was the focus of Le Monde sans soleil (World Without Sun) suggesting that it covers the same topic as Continental Shelf Station Two. Perhaps 'continental shelf' is loose translation, and Precontinent is more direct loan word. I agree that in English (given the movie perhaps) it is better known by the 'Continental Shelf' name, so suggest going with that. Klbrain (talk) 16:03, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
