former presto store image[edit]

the picture is the former presto store in aberdeens cornhill area

I believe Presto was founded in 1967 not 1977 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Prestoperson (talkcontribs) 16:03, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

it would be very helpful if you could provide a source for this Dormskirk (talk) 22:55, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date of establishment[edit]

The article says Presto first established in England and Scotland in 1977. This is inaccurate as I worked in Presto Dundee Scotland when it opened a store in 1974. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leemy08 (talkcontribs) 14:45, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know when it was established? Dormskirk (talk) 21:27, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We have an advert from a local newspaper which shows the Gateshead Presto (which was in Trinity Square aka Get Carter Car Park) in operation in June 1975. So 1977 is far too late. Advert can be put online if 'proof' is needed. ATVNetwork (talk) 04:20, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Grandways[edit]

The reference for Grandways getting taken over by Argyll is a 404 not found, and it's inaccurate anyway. Grandways may have sold off their larger stores, but they did not get acquired outright. The remaining stores were rebranded as Jacksons and eventually taken over by Sainsbury's. Digifiend (talk) 00:15, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Foundation date[edit]

I have finally changed the foundation date to 1967. However, I believe this was at least 1967. The article states that it only had a nationwide presence "for some years". I think the Morrisons supermarket in the West 12 Shopping Centre (formerly the Concorde Centre) in Shepherd's Bush, London, was originally a Presto and was opened in 1967. I have since found out that the Presto on the Preston Grange estate in Preston, Tyne and Wear (mentioned in the main article as one of the first stores) opened in the early 1960s. Therefore, my suspicion that it was founded earlier than 1967 has proved to be correct.

Interestingly, there is still an Active legal entity registered at Companies House called Presto Stores Limited which was incorporated on 03/12/1964. It has its Registered Office at Hilmore House, Gain Lane, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD3 7DL, which is obviously the Head Office of Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC. But I am not sure whether this is the right limited company. LRB2000 (talk) 12:12, 2 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
