December 1900?[edit]

I have two different sources, stating that the prize originates from 1891; the one being the Danish book "Mars og Marsmanden - På rejse til Den Røde Planet med Jens Martin Knudsen" (the title in English would somewhat be: "Mars and the Martian - A journey to The Red Planet with Jens Martin Knudsen") - the book is one part biography, one part facts about Mars. The biography being about the now deceased astronomer, physicist, and astrophysicist Jens Martin Knudsen. ( ISBN: (978)-87-11-22244-1 ).

In the book it states that, (quoted; first in Danish, then I've translated the text):

"1891
En velhavende fransk enke ved navn Clara Gouguet Guzman udlover en dusør på 100.000 fr. til den person, der først opnår kontakt med intelligensvæsener uden for Jorden. Det Franske Akademi for Videnskaberne administrerer konkurrencen og udelukker kontakt med marsboere. Det ville være for nemt, mener man."

In English:

"1891
A wealthy French widow, by the name of Clara Gouguet Guzman, promises a reward of 100,000 franc to the person who obtains contact with intelligent beings not on Earth first. The French Academy for Sciences handles the contest and excludes contact with Martians. That would be too easy, they believed."

The second source is from this page (scroll down to "1891"), in which it states somewhat the same.

2nd; why is the article "Tesla Has Plans to Signal Mars" [1] listed as a source? First off; the article has nothing to do with the prize itself; it's only mentioned *two* times, and the mentionings have nothing to do with facts about the prize - only that Tesla (in 1937) was ready to put forth, to the French Academy, the design for communications with other worlds; the design not being mentioned, nor *if* he did enter his design. He didn't predict anything in regard to communications with extraterrestrial worlds. DKDexter999 (talk) 15:26, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
