Propose merge[edit]

I see no reason for List of major baseball leagues to exist other than the inherently POV claim that professional leagues in other countries are in some way on the same level as MLB. The information contained there would be a very useful addition to Professional baseball (which is hardly so long that a side page needs to be created), and I am proposing that the former be merged into this page. --BlueMoonlet 02:22, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Farm teams"?[edit]

The article leader mentions "farm teams". As a mere Brit, completely unfamiliar with baseball, the only analogue I can think of is a "college team" in basketball or (American) football. These are teams from a college, so presumably a "farm team" in baseball is a team from a farm. I doubt this is the case, so could someone maybe expand on this (or Wikilink if appropriate), so that I no longer have this image of a large bunch of Young Farmers milling about on the baseball court, or pitch, or track, or whatever it is, with associated farm animals? Thanks! Tonywalton Talk 00:11, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A "farm team" is a minor league team with a contractual relationship to a major league team to develop young players (or host rehabilitation for older ones). The term is an analogy of the raising of produce on farms before it is delivered to market. --Dystopos (talk) 05:53, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Farm team article should also be of help. I've also added a link to that article in this one. Farm teams in baseball fill a similar role to the college teams in basketball and American football, though the systems are totally different. - BilCat (talk) 06:17, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Industrial leagues[edit]

Wikipedia's coverage of industrial league baseball is woefully sparse. I'll try to stub something up from general-purpose references, but expert help is badly needed. --05:48, 28 April 2010 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dystopos (talkcontribs)

Puerto Rico Baseball League listed under "Caribbean 'Countries'"?[edit]

Puerto Rico is, of course, part of the United States, and not an independent country. I believe that maybe that fact should be taken into consideration and therefore the article reformatted to acknowledge that. Worldbook1967 (talk) 21:19, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Organized Baseball"[edit]

"Affiliated baseball" would be a much more accurate (and more commonly used) term to describe the baseball leagues organized under the MLB and commissioner of baseball. Organized baseball is not a term I have seen used nearly as much and not one that is as accurate to the actual way that the baseball system works. 74.218.3.3 (talk) 04:16, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
