not s severe a problem[edit]

The sentence 'Prostitution has not become as severe a problem in Sri Lanka as in some neighboring countries.' is highly problematic. It reads like And you are lynching Negros-type of fallacy straight from some government whitewashing press release, and it is ironically sourced to articles that have titles like "Sex tourists prey on Sri Lanka's children: Beach resorts are hunting-grounds for European child abusers and pornographic video makers" or ""Sri Lanka: hotbed for sexual exploitation of children". --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:23, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign prostitutes in Sri Lanka[edit]

This news shows social issues and phenomena about foreign prostitutes in Sri Lanka. It is also a reliable source of arrest by the Sri Lankan Immigration.

Wikipedia is not a newspaper and we should not be including news reports about individual arrests for prostitution. - MrOllie (talk) 15:31, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
News is the main source of information about prostitution. It is different from academic issues.Bablos939 (talk) 15:34, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If news were to be removed, most of Wiki prostitution text would be removed.Bablos939 (talk) 15:36, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
'Wikipedia considers the enduring notability of persons and events.' 'For example, routine news reporting of announcements, sports, or celebrities is not a sufficient basis for inclusion in the encyclopedi' -> This part has nothing to do with the realm of prostitution.Bablos939 (talk) 15:40, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Verifiability#Reliable sources News can also be recognized as a reliable source.Bablos939 (talk) 15:49, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am not suggesting that all news be removed as sources, but as Wikipedia is not a newspaper we do not cover individual events (such as two Chinese women being arrested) here. - MrOllie (talk) 15:51, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If Sri Lankan woman is caught in prostitution in Sri Lanka , you may be right. but case of foreign women is different. And most news is often an individual event. If you accept the news as a reliable source, don't delete it.Bablos939 (talk) 16:00, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We don't include everything written by any reliable source, content must agree with other content policies as well, such as WP:NOT and WP:UNDUE. Your recent additions do not. - MrOllie (talk) 16:11, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Immigration authorities have recently been tracking women from China and former Soviet republics who enter the island as tourists and operate as sex workers.' This part is not individual.Bablos939 (talk) 16:22, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
On an island where there are an estimated 40,000 prostitutes, a single women fined for prostitution, 3 women arrested on one occasion, an unspecified on another and 8 in the last, over a period from 2012 to 2020 is hardly significant to the overall picture. Additionally, your edits on this and other prostitution articles seem biased, all of your additions involve Chinese women, a quick google search suggests more Russian women have been arrested during that period. --John B123 (talk) 16:13, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I mentioned various national women. 'Immigration authorities have recently been tracking women from China and former Soviet republics who enter the island as tourists and operate as sex workers.' If we don't mention the fact that there are only a few foreign women, Wikipedia aricle about prostitutes will be drastically reduced.Bablos939 (talk) 16:18, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We can include foreign prostitutes in the article using sources that give a bigger picture than just arrests of individuals or a handful of women. For example: Melissa Hope Ditmore, Encyclopedia of Prostitution and Sex Work, Volume 1 page 452. --John B123 (talk) 16:38, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
thank you. I understand. but Despite the arrest of many foreign women, there may not be much media coverage. I suggest -> sub-title 'Foreign Women Arrested Case'Bablos939 (talk) 22:59, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear MrOllie,John B123 I have a question. Should all individual news events be deleted? I'm sorry if I don't know the rules.Bablos939 (talk) 16:27, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

News stories are fine providing the events described are significant. For example, I think this article about 100+ women being trafficked from Sri Lanka to the Maldives is significant. A single woman being fined 20 Rupees for prostitution isn't. --John B123 (talk) 16:46, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
thank you. I understand However, the arrests of Chinese prostitutes are very frequent in Sri Lanka. I suggest => sub-title 'Foreign Women Arrested Case' — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bablos939 (talkcontribs) 22:50, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
