Apologies[edit]

This is a pretty poor article. Having trouble searching sources. "Provoke" isn't a very useful search term for the 1960's, as there was an awful lot of provocation going on.  Tigerboy1966  16:44, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Provoke won the Melrose Stakes, which is actually the Melrose Handicap Stakes for 3yos run at the York meeting. He won the race by a short-head in a driving finish from a filly called Santa Vimy. This lightweight (Provoke carried top weight) was trained by Sam Hall and ridden by Joe Sime, and was considered a certainty by his connections.(Victor Middlesex (talk) 06:33, 6 January 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Ownership[edit]

Whilst most of this article is correct the ownership details are not. I have changed the owner/breeder to the correct Jakie Astor and not Jakey Astor. However the mistake was so great that a citation (false) was given for Jakey Astor. Can someone clean this up? A better citation is p 103, p 111-114 0f Dick Hern, The Authorised Biography by Peter Willett (2000) Hodder and Stoughton ISBN0 340 79264 7 (Victor Middlesex (talk) 03:27, 8 December 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks VM - sorted this, found a specific cite for Astor being the owner and breeder on p112 of the Willet book - I have the same edition as you. --Bcp67 (talk) 11:11, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
