Canadian cats[edit]

Noting that there was no Category:Steamboats of the Fraser River I tried "upgrading" that cat to Category:Steamboats of British Columbia, which also doesn't exist, so I amended it again to the national category, added the CPR category (which IMO is awkwardly named) and the PacNW and Cdn passenger vessel one....there is a Category:Paddle steamers of British Columbia but no Category:Sternwheelers of British Columbia, and I don't know enough about hte maze of ship hierarchies to want to start it. When the time comes, whoever, because nearly all vessels operating on the Lower Fraser also operated - necessarily - on the Strait of Georgia and other adjoining waters - the regional catname should be Category:Steamboats of the Fraser River and Gulf of Georgia ("Gulf" because that can then include Howe Sound and the inter-island waterways which are not part of the Strait of Georgia, other than in popular misconception; "Lower Fraser River" might also be a better usage given Steambots of the Upper Fraser River; note that Harrison Lake/River, Pitt Lake etc should be included though need not be named in the title). What to do with those vessels which werviced the West Coast of Vancouver Island is a separate issue, but many were the same (and also were in the Mosquito Fleet....and most of those on the Skeena, Stikine etc had also been on the Fraser, or would be....Skookum1 (talk) 13:38, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
