Concerns about full protection escalation.

Hi Bearcat. I am concerned that article was upgraded from semi-protection to full-protection on the same day after only one edit. While this edit was clearly outside of Wikipedia article standards, Floquirion is a new editor, and is probably inexperienced with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I think it would be better to begin a talk page discussion to discuss content issues before escalating protection levels.

I will note I arrived here randomly, and do not have any specific edits that I was currently planning to make (I've never heard of the subject of this article before reading this article). However, I think at the very least, it should be downgraded to extended confirmed protection, as per our protection policy this is supposed to be the next level of protection after semi-protection. e^πi (talk | contribs) 23:08, 27 April 2019 (UTC)

Actually, extended confirmed isn't the immediate next step after autoconfirmed — it's a rarefied level of protection that can be used only if there's a long-term pattern of autoconfirmed failing to control editing problems, not a step that can be jumped to immediately. The protection wasn't indefinite, but was applied for just long enough to give the conflict of interest noticeboard time to look into the issue I raised there — but extended confirmed isn't so much "the next step after autoconfirmed" as it is "the nuclear option step, applicable only if all other options have failed". @Bearcat: The link to the COIN discussion clarifies some details. I think it might have been better if it was linked on this talk page to begin with, since it strongly pertains to this article's development. But it's understandable if this was missed, because it's not monumentally important, and it's also a matter of discretion where to post.

I disagree with your characterization of extended-confirmed protection. It is true extended-confirmed was originally created to handle a specific arbitration case, but it has evolved to broader use since then. Wikipedia:Protection policy currently reads Where semi-protection has proven to be ineffective, administrators may use extended confirmed protection to combat disruption (such as vandalism, abusive sockpuppetry, edit wars, etc.) on any topic. Reviewing the EP logs, one will see many cases of temporary protections. Even with the COIN discussion, it still seems EP may be better, but I guess it's a matter of philosophical differences.

But I can respect these differences; my earliest editing was 2015, and I definitely lack the experience to have complete confidence in my opinions regarding the handling of user behavior (though I feel POV editing requires additional careful article communication consideration in addition to the normal behavioral considerations). Ultimately, the article is only protected for five days, the protection is completely allowed by policy, and I am not personally hindered by this protection. I have done many research on Rad hourani, his title is "interdisciplinary artist", he refuse to be called "fashion designer", he mentioned it in many interviews, he also explain how he use the medium of costume/ clothing to express a point on gender for unisex collections. There's also no place on his social media or web that it mentions "fashion designer", his title is always "interdisciplinary artist". It is wrong to impose a title on someone that he mention publicly that he refuse to be called by it.

Hello! I left a note on your talk page about your username, which is not allowed. Regarding the request, if I look at these sources, he is very frequently called a fashion designer. Wikipedia relies on independent reporting to determine article content:

UNISEX COUTURE INVENTION In 2012, Rad Hourani was approached by the "Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture" in Paris to become an "invited member" as the first Canadian, with the endorsement of Sidney Toledano at "Christian Dior Couture.” Embodying an innovative spirit, Rad Hourani then became the first to both create and introduce a unisex collection in the history of "Haute Couture" in January of 2013. This moment confirms the necessity of genderless status within a historical institution.

Rad Hourani's "Unisex Couture" live performances make use of the medium of performative installations at the "Centre Culturel Canadien" in Paris as continuous manifestations of his vision to break the stereotypical narrative found in the dressing codes of society. The reveal is beyond typical androgyny or any countercultural movement and becomes an elevated craftsmanship of the arts, proposing an urgency for the acknowledgement of gender-neutral presence in institutionalized spaces.

Rad Hourani applies principles of architecture to the visceral premise of how each garment will react with the movements of the human body. Therefore, the works were crafted with movement in mind and attended to these dynamics. His runway performances incorporated movement of the body, parading with gestures to conjure symbolic meaning. The articulation of the body contextually projects confidence and self-celebration as an aesthetic disruption of social barriers. Persisting in challenging stereotypical narratives of labels, he questions the strict separations of men's and women's wear collections that are the basis of the fashion industry.

As the conventional catwalk is historically conceived to showcase the latest trends, it is designed to perpetuate a form of consumer anticipation through the release of seasonal collections, made available in stores six months later. Rad Hourani rethinks a sustainable anti-trend strategy and is geared towards producing timeless pieces that are simultaneously available online to order as they are being shown. Repeatedly, he states "genderless, raceless, ageless, nationless, limitless" for changing the systematic conventions of the catwalk when interviewed by the media about the theme of each season.

His walking art shows are presented at ground level, unlike the typical raised runways at the time, and the format of his catwalk was situated between the rows of seatings with no separations between the guests and the models. To add to the sense of an equitable environment in his settings, he added elements of live music and specific lighting, creating an inclusive ambience of belonging.

The ensembles were revealed through choreographed performances, where the forms evolved in motion. This allows for expression to manifest in the performer with the given instructions: to walk slowly to the beat, sharply turn, march forward without stopping, and others. Their attitudes carry out a metaphorical understanding of certain traits, like determination and perseverance. Further yet, they suggest a symbolism of pureness through their delivery as living sculptures. As the choreography progresses, we begin to notice the models coming all together at the end, a metaphor of human union.

SOCIAL IMPACT Rad Hourani's attracted a global audience with the use of costume as a medium to introduce a new sizing system specific to entirely unisex wardrobes, generated from his invention of gender-neutral patterns. The unprecedented unisex concept of his ready-to-wear and couture collections gives voice to issues of gender identity and inequality and highlights their ties to mainstream codes of dressing.

From 2007 to 2014, Rad Hourani used the discipline of runway as a manifestation of breaking through the divisions that occur in mainstream consumerism. Using this art practice as a method of expression served as a zone of activism for emerging dialogues for public shifts. In this manner, he collaborated with politicians and other creatives, involved live musicians during his biannual installations in New York and Paris, and was hosted internationally by various cities and institutions.

Between 2005 and 2007, Rad Hourani invented the first gender-neutral patterns, in addition to a non-gendered sizing system specific to a complete unisex wardrobe. In October 2007, at the age of 25, he introduced the first entirely gender-neutral ready-to-wear collection in fashion history via a runway performance. In 2012, he was approached by the "Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture" in Paris to become an "invited member” as the first Canadian. In January 2013, at the age of 30, Rad Hourani became the first to both create and present a unisex couture collection in the history of "Haute Couture". His revolutionary concept of gender-neutral collections aims to initiate a dialogue on non-binarity through the medium of costume. Defending a baseline of equality, Rad Hourani's work has paved the way for boundary-pushing creations of the future, using non-binary terms such as genderless, agender, genderfluid, non-gendered, all-gender, human, and others.

Rad Hourani was invited to teach and lecture to spread his knowledge in artistic and academic communities in Seoul, Dubai, Beijing, Paris, Berlin, Tbilisi, New York, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, London, and other cities, as well as at various institutions, including the Centre Pompidou, FIT Museum, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, UQÀM, and École du Louvre. He was a member of the jury of numerous art and film festivals and programmed a "carte blanche” at The International Festival of Films on Art (Le FIFA). He has is a curator of solo and group exhibitions by many artists in public art establishments. Rad has made contributions through collaborations with the LGBTQIA2S+ community and events on feminism and diversity. Some of his books have been published by the Fondation Phi pour l'art contemporain by Phoebe Greenberg. He is of the “personnalité de la semaine” of La Presse, a guest on Radio-Canada's "Tout le monde en parle", and one of the Montreal visionaries of the McCord Stewart Museum exhibition.

In October 2023, Rad Hourani's exhibition at Artexte in Montréal questions the education system and highlights issues of exclusion in language policies. His sculptural installation aims to open a dialogue on invisible handicaps and issues related to written language. His body of work plays a critical role in the fight against inequality. It explores how language can be constantly reinvented to include people with neurodiversity as well as the deaf. The shapes and textures of his works enable blind and partially-sighted people to access them through touch. Such an approach can help advance social movements.

This nonconformist artist (innovator, sculptor, researcher, architect, teacher, philosopher, activist, etc.) seeks to propose, transmit, collaborate, and nurture even further the idea we might have of the arts through his activism. The ideas he puts forward are universal and inclusive, always ensuring that marginalized communities are represented in his work through a unifying prism. His work has been presented in partnership with the Graham Foundation, the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA), the City of Chicago, the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCASE), the Joan W. and Irving B. • You seem to be proposing a wholesale rewrite, but this is highly promotional and sourced only to Wikipedia. Wikipedia articles cannot be used to source other Wikipedia articles, see WP:CIRCULAR. Why is no one taking the time to check the Rad Hourani page on Wikipedia? He is a cultural icon and a very important figure who revolutionized our world with his work. It seems to me that the volunteers are not giving any time to BIPOC innovators of the 21st century.

Why not have all the details on his page? Why diminish his work and innovations? Does his name need to be anglophone or francophone for the wikipedia community to care ?

Wikipedia describes someone as independent reliable sources describe them, not how a person describes themselves. That can certainly be mentioned in the article if cited, but this won't just describe him as he wants to be described.

Rad Hourani is Canadian, he speaks english and french. The reliable sources I provided describes him as an "interdisciplinary artist" and not as a fashion designer. It is astonishing that the wikipedia impose a public identity on him that creates confusion.

A public identity is considered in the same context as that of people with non-binary identities, who use the term "they" instead of she or he, and so on.

All I'm suggesting to you is that to increase the chances a volunteer will want to invest the time needed to review.your requests, that you start much smaller and roll out one or two small changes at a time.
